Yesterday's Christmas miracle was getting my car back before the shop closed at noon. The car had completely locked up late Sunday (luckily in a safe parking lot). I had it towed home.

The next day Triple A was to tow it to a mechanic (after making sure it wasn't the battery) and I got a text saying the driver was on his way at 4:28 in the afternoon. Guess what time a tow truck finally arrived? It was 2:30 in the morning. I stayed up because with the holiday it could be days before I got another opportunity.

The mechanic was good, solved the problem in about an hour. It was a loose wire. Anyway I was able to run last minute errands which made today a lot simpler.

Last week the car rental place didn't have any available cars. This week Triple A didn't have any available drivers. What is going on? Does McDonalds have hamburgers?

Morning folks....39F here and raining outside, up to 50 later I guess...I think it rained off n on all nite....achy, painy day again...oh well...I musta been a good boy, neighbor lady
brought over a plate of baked goodies, so that makes 3 plates
of the good stuff this year Yay!!! Happy Boxing Day..... 😍

Mornin' folks.. almost midday here, drizzly and overcast...

I've made a promise to myself not to do any housework today on Boxing day which is a national holiday here... is it a holiday where you are ? Almost eveything remains closed today...

In january I have a horrible schedule... all of the month.. so I'm trying to rest now, before that all starts up...

Have a super day wherever you are and whatever you're doing...

Boxing Day isn't a holiday in the US, @hollydolly, but it should be. I think it is in Canada.

Very warm here for December. 44F. Not expected to stay that way, though, with a high of only 50F.

DD has to go to her away-from-home job for a little bit this morning to write paychecks. I'm doing mountains of laundry. Mountains, I tell you. Maybe I'll vacuum...but not dust yet because the Christmas decorations need to be packed away first (both of them LOL!).

Since there's no plan to go anywhere today, I might just stay in my (new) pajamas and overindulge on leftovers today.

Yesterday wasn't Sunday, and today isn't Monday. Today is Thursday.

Laundry got started really early and is almost done. Yanno what that means? It means I gotta fold it or hang it up and put it away. We can put a man on the moon. Why can't we invent a way for the laundry to do itself?

While we're at it, we should also invent a way for the dusting and vacuuming to do itself, too.

Well, it's over.....I can get back to being myself for a while. Until later, when Santa starts watching again!

I am/was planning on getting back into my normal routine today. So far, not happening!!

First, I slept in, and got up late. Then, I spent most of my morning taking to my sick friend, again. I've been doing this almost every morning for over a month. Unfortunately, taking the time to text or voice message is all I can do. It seems to lift her spirits, but honestly..I'm really worried about her. She has been sick on and off for 3 months. Each time it seems to come back worse than the time before. The Holidays are not helping. The soonest she can see her doctor is next Tuesday. I hope she doesn't wind up in the hospital before then!!!

As I was saying: I'm running late today. I hope everyone had a good Christmas!

I need to make breakfast, then it's off to the gym, for me!

Happy Boxing Day!

I got the vaccing done upstairs and down... it's almost a joy to use the Shark which is so much lighter than my Miele cannister
(y)

It's 4.30pm now and dark.. feel warm in the house which is 19 deg now beccause I put the heating on for an hour ...earlier, and when that goes off the residual heat keep the house warm for another hour or 2.. that way it keeps the high cost down...

I'm just about to go and start cooking the gammon that I initially was going to have for Christmas day lunch ... but for dinner tonight I have to use up some egg mayonaise, and some smoked salmon Mousse.. so I'll put them in a baked potato... and have that instead of the meat

I'll cool the gammon down for another day but tonight I'll make bacon and lentil soup with some of it...and then portion it up to Freeze...

I got a letter inviting me for a mammogram.. I always go..it's never been a problem for me as it seems to be for some women who find it painful.. but unfortunatey this year, they've invited me the day after I've to get dental surgery so I can't go... I'll have to rearrange another date for after january because the week after my dental surgery I'm having abdominal surgery as an in-patient in hospital, and I'm told I won't be able to drive for several weeks afterwards..

Companion horse should be here today.

The hay I prayed about because it’s been a bad hay season in my area, came out of nowhere and should be delivered & stacked this afternoon. 125 - 60# bales is a LOT more than I can unload in my old age.

I have gone from a balancing act on the horse fence in regards to when the horse is coming, and where the hay is coming from, to both supposedly coming today. Nobody wants to put anything off because it’s supposed to be frog strangling rain tomorrow and possibly part of Saturday as well.

There is a new phrase that some people may find offensive —- frog strangling rain. It’s a favorite amongst rural folks in my area. It takes a lot of rain to strangle a frog😂😂

Merry Christmas To All Of You, from the Packleader and his family

I hiked this morning with my older daughter who lives/works in China and whom I see only twice a year; it's our "quality time." After more than ten years in China, she wants to come home permanently next summer. --- Usually our rain season starts in October/November and then everything would be green by now. But I haven't measured any rain at our house since last April. So, everything is still sunburned yellow/brown.

For the last many years, only at Christmas have we all come together.

Left: my wife cooks three times as much as we possibly can eat, and the pies and desserts are not even included.
Right: TV Station Channel 5 in Los Angeles (www.KTLA.com) is playing Christmas music without commercials.

What a lovely dinner table! What a lovely Christmas for you all! 🤗

Oh, my. I ate more than I meant to, and now I'm a tad uncomfy and haven't even had dessert. When I do should it be peanut butter pie, apple pie, kahlua cheesecake or apple cinnamon cheesecake?

TV is on. The commercials aren't even for meds this time; they're all for food. No!!!!! I don't wanna turn it off because it's company. Can't read my home page because it seems that every other story is something about food.

If I lie down, I'll get heartburn. >le sigh<
Apple cinnamon cheesecake! Be still my heart!

Shortly after midnight, I caught up with some posts here and on Facebook. I did some digital "cleaning". Too much stuff had accumulated on my desktop screen, so I put most of them in the recycle bin. Even though we don't celebrate Christmas, my son and I watched the Motown Christmas Special that had aired twice in a week on NBC and is now streaming on Peacock. We both enjoyed it. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of Motown music and artists. Other than that I played games, napped and watched disaster B movies, FF through to the end of a couple of them that were not holding my interest.

I hope everyone who celebrates had a lovely Christmas.

I'm glad that even though you don't celebrate Christmas you feel the joy and spirit of the season along with other celebrations. 🤗

Thank you Hearlady. I was a Christian for more than half my life before I accepted Islam and at this point, it's still more than half my life. I still have fond memories of celebrating Christmas with my family, especially when my son was little. There's so much negativity and tragedy going on in the world; people need something to lift their spirits.

How will you function. Taxis? Food delivery? You’re out and about almost every day.
yes I know, it's a real concern for me tbh. My daughter will be driving down to pick me up from the hospital when I get discharged and take me home.. and make sure eveything is ok...but she can't stay around because she has to go back for work.. and for her poorly pooch as well..

On the day of my admittance I can't drive to the hospital because I can't leave my car there for weeks .. so I have get a train or an Uber ( very expensive uber)... to be at the hospital for admission at 7am...I'm to have the surgery the same day... all this while I'll still be recovering from dental surgery :(

prior to that I've got to ensure all my grocery shopping is here for a while and anything I might need after that I'll have to order online..I'm not only not allowed to drive, I'm not going to be permitted to pick up anything heavier than a bag of sugar ... and bend as little as possible.. for some weeks.
I'm going to re-arrange my store cupboards this week so items I use regularly will be moved to shoulder height from below waist level.. where they currently are

if I do have to go out during my convalescence then it will have to be Cabs..

I forgot to say..not only are the 2 things above in january..also I have to have the pre admission assesment, at a different hospital on th 7th of january....and 3 days before that my car goes in for it's annual MOT ( Ministry of transport) test..which all cars in the uk have to have which are over 3 years old. It's illegal to drive without the test certificate..and if you do its invalidates your insurance...

It's a concern every year for everyone, because if they find anything wrong.. you can't drive your car away from the testing site... and it has to be repaired, which can be costly. ..depending on what they find wrong.. and it can be something as simple as headlights..

last December it cost me over £1000 to have my brakes done... so I'm hoping it passes this time with no issues..if it doesn't then i won't be able to get to the pre assesment hospital 3 days later.. ...so you can see what I mean when i say january is going to be a horrible month for me..

Holly I am sorry you have so much to go through in January. I will be thinking of you and wish you the very best as you recover from the procedures. Hugs.
awww thank you Raven....🤗 that's very kind of you.. I'll probably be feeling very sorry for myself when the time comes, but I'll be remembering your best wishes.. and that's gonna help me get through it..

Not to worry @hollydolly. I'm gonna win the MegaMillions lottery tomorrow night. I will get a renewal passport expedited, book a flight and get on over there to help you. Or as native southerners say here, "hep" you.

I will fetch and carry and even dust if I have to. I'll drive on the wrong side of the road to get your groceries. I'll bend over to pick up the parcels left at your doorstep for you by Amazon or other delivery services. I will even turn on the heat and pay for it because being cold won't help your recovery.

I will be your general factotum for as long as you need me, but I won't go to the dentist for you.
