How many times did you move as a child

I only remember first living in for a short time in a house with only a couch for furniture, then in a 2 room converted barbershop, then a 2 story house in which my mother rented upstairs to a Japanese man who cooked up a meal for my mother, me and sister. When he finished his meal he let out a long, loud burb. We were shocked. I guess it was a cultural sign the meal was enjoyed.....then in an Air Force barracks converted into apartments, we were allowed to live there because my now married mother's husband had been a soldier. Then on to a house surrounded by large grassy acreage. And I felt that at last I can tell my school classmates that I live in a normal family house.

Twice,I lived in our childhood home for about 20 yrs, then our family moved to Kenmore, NY{suburb of Buffalo,NY} so I could attend my junior& senior yrs of high school after being away for 6 yrs. It helped, after graduating from college, I moved back into the same neighborhood. I now live 2 blocks from my childhood home

Let's see. St. Johnsville, NY, Rochester, NY, West Henrietta, NY, Rochester, NY, Holly, NY, West Palm Beach, Florida, Juno Beach, Florida, Lake Park, Florida, Nelliston, NY, St. Johnsville, NY. Around 9 times or so.
Then as an adult it was St. Johnsville, NY, Los Angeles, California, St. Johnsville, NY, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Syracuse, NY, Jersey City, NJ, St. Johnsville, NY.

As a child, once. I made up for that as an adult. Last week, it was the 72nd anniversary of our big move from The Bronx to Brooklyn. It was the day of my parents' 15th wedding anniversary. The next day was my birthday. I turned 4. Now I am back in this same apartment, a co-op. Thanks to my parents bold move 72 years ago I have a roof over my head. It was very bold as the rent doubled, from $28. in the Bronx to $56. a month. We were poor people back then.

I was a little girl. Now I'm an old woman. Freaks me out sometimes.

I lost count. Besides the moves I also got shipped off to older relatives in the summer when I was younger.
When I got older I stayed home alone in the summer. Mom got married a few times. In between we lived in rentals and sometimes with relatives.

The thing I always hated most was every time we moved we dumped most of our stuff.
Ive been in this house since 1980 and I still have ALL of my stuff. :D

At one time during my pre-teen years, we had a mobile home. It wasn't big, like many of todays "manufactured homes" - it was small, only one bedroom, which was for my parents, and I slept on the "living room" sofa that made into a bed. My father kept changing jobs, looking for a new job, etc., and times were hard, so we moved a lot.

It didn't really have much impact on me, except for once. My teacher was speaking about animals, turtles, etc., and in front of the class, she said something like, "Mack is much like a turtle, since he can just move along in his shell of a house." I cannot imagine a teacher today saying such a thing, It was very hurtful and other classmates laughed. Thankfully, we did in fact move not long after that, and I was GLAD to be away from that school.

How rude!! Teachers can be mean girls too. I would be glad to move too.

One good thing about moving to a new place is that no one knows the old you.
This can be a good opportunity to reinvent yourself. :D

I brought my 6th grade class photo home. There was about 40 kids and a few teachers in it. I was tall for my age and kind of stuck out. Which probably made the fact that I was the only white kid in the photo even more obvious. That was the only time we moved.
