Just getting a lot of rain and wind right now. Here in the Geezer Ghetto I am on good high ground in a condo apartment.

Years ago in a different town, we got hit by a tornado. It tore off part of our roof. It really spooked our little chihuahua. Ruins your whole day.

I am at my home here in Florida. The hurricane past by earlier with some heavy rain and winds at about 48kts. The worse is over for us. According to the weather on TV, Tampa is getting heavy rains with high wind as it moves up the coast.

The weatherman at 5 pm said there will be a storm surge of about 20 feet or more in Clearwater-Tampa area and on up the coast from there.

I once considered moving to Florida. Glad all I did was consider. Out here in California we do have earthquakes, but at least in my lifetime nothing really significant. Zero tornadoes around here. Forest fires are a frequent California problem, but also not around here. Do occasionally get some smoke - not particularly healthy. Woke up one morning, opened the door, and the air was uniformly orange.

This time we are on the right coast. God help those in western and northern Florida. It just became a cat 4..hardest to ever hit that area. We expect gusty winds and rain.
I pray for all your loved ones in the path of this monster.
Pappy in Florida.
Pappy, I'm glad you're in a safer area. I saw an official on TV saying how residents in certain areas will be hit with a storm the effects of which they have never seen.
@squatting dog I hope that both you and your brother will be safe.

Years ago I moved to LA for a while. They build apartments out of chicken wire and plaster so an earthquake can shake them like a baby's rattle and they won't fall down.

A lot of rain here in the Atlanta metro area of (metro area comprised of 17 counties) and so far about 1.1 million without power. An hour ago there were "only" 500,000 without power. The rain is supposed to be gone by about 9am with the wind continuing all day.

We're safe and dry so far.

Maybe we should get someone out there to hand out some free paper towels.

Geezer Ghetto? It ruined the Chihuahua's day? LOL!

Keep in mind that Helene isn't done messing with people yet. There is more damage to come in the interior of the East and FEMA et al. will already be committed in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas - so other states will be on their own. Good luck Tennessee and Kentucky!

Storm has come and gone. With one exception, only minor damage. (twig debris etc).
Had one large tree blown down. I call it a miracle tree because when it fell, it landed between my new peach and cherry tree's, missed the entire front garden, landed on the yard swing which prevented it from smashing down on the septic tank.
Outside of some chain link fence, nothing was harmed. (even the swing set held up). :)

Thank you P.P.
Had a drizzle of rain last night and... of all things, the sun is shining brightly right now. I'm far enough inland to be reasonably safe, but, I worry for my brother as he's real close to the gulf in Hernando county. Tidal surge is his worry.
Took my tractor out and made a few drain paths around the property and serviced the generator. That, plus the solar system on the motor home should provide enough electric if need be.
Already told my brother if it looks real bad to head over here and stay.
How are you doing squatting dog? I am surprised to see you online. Are you ok? Just read the thread and realize you are fine.
This is a great thing. Stay safe.

power blinked about 8 pm but never went out. Internet was gone around 10pm until around 8 am this morning.
3 sets of shorts, shirts and underware, and I've got most of the tree chopped up.

Are these photo shopped? They don't look like what I saw on the weather channel. (joke) I landed in Portland years ago right after a large storm hit. Super large pine trees fell on houses like spiked weapons. I think there were zero fatalities.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Pines... One of the reasons we chose this house, was the lack of pine tree's. That sink hole place had them all over. (super tall and all close to the house). Was always afraid a storm would drop them square on the house.
I've bucked up the whole tree so now I'll have to repair the fence. That and figure how to get that stump over the fences and out of the yard.
