I am introducing a post for your photographs with the theme - Seen Better Days

Yeah, that would be a bit unsettling. What you described sounds like a "police state," but that's a symptom of the dictatorship — not communism itself.

What made you decide to go to Cuba? That's not a place I've ever considered traveling to.
I'll answer. But first I'll say I don't want to detour this thread so if people want me to, I'll report my replies to Matrix and have them deleted.

Well, my previous travel had been across Canada, a number of trips into or through Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona New Mexico... and once for a few days in New York. Plus Mexico. Also the UK.

I can say my curiosity was piqued by the extreme difference from all those place I just mentioned. I was curious about what a small country like Cuba would be like (complete with a different form of government). I'd read that they'd progressed from roughly a 53% literacy/numeracy rate to about 95%. One thing that was interesting is that they were hoping to develop & maintain an economy separate from the previous colonial systems.

some years later, next destinations were Italy, France, and Northern Europe.

Bretrick, your post (#177) had an image when I first looked at it, but afterwards the image has disappeared... at least for me. Any idea what's happened?

Editing just to add: without me doing anything to my laptop, the image just showed up again. One of those mysterious things, I guess.

The pics are hosted by an external site, not uploaded to Seniorforums. Right click or long-press on the images and you'll see what I mean (y)

I use postimages.org which at times has glitches.

You're right, it was heartless, it came to mind when M.F. was interviewed on something like Wogan, she came out with some hurtful tirade, but two wrongs and all that. I should delete it but then this apology would be perplexing to others. Forgive me, I won't do that again.
say it like it is is my motto and be horseless I mean heartless!!
