I had a look at Facebook today

Must say that the way it operates is detrimental to all the businesses that use it as their web site.
I was thinking about going somewhere different for breakfast this morning and noticed many businesses had Facebook as their only point of contact.
Well we all know that one can view the first page of Facebook without being a member, but any further is out of bounds to non members.
What a backward way of doing business. There would be so many non members unable to view menus and the like that the business will not get their cash.
Case in Point, I was looking at a particular business which I thought I might visit though because I was unable to view their menu I will not be going there to spend my money.
What a crazy business model. The businesses are doing themselves a disservice by using Facebook as their only point of contact.
This is not how Facebook started out, was it?
I thought it was to connect people, all over the world.
Now it is what? Add your own thoughts...

Before Facebook, MySpace was the dominant social media sight. Can't remember if I signed up to it. Never liked it, so when Facebook came along I assumed it was a MySpace competitor and simply ignored it. For what it's worth I have never bought anything online, I may be old school but if there's a hint of scurity risk and giving card details online I consider risky, not for me, thank you.

Businesses having their information available only on Facebook is a pet peeve of mine. I've never had an account and never will.

I have got to the stage of no longer purchasing online.
Scammers are becoming all pervasive and with the advent of AI, how would one know a fake site from the real site?

If you don’t want people to know your business, you don’t put it on Facebook. It really is that simple.
I have been very selective with everyone I am Facebook friends with.
Almost all of them have been in my house and/or I have been in theirs.
You have the power as to who can see your posts and what you choose to post.

Nah... nothing so innocent.
Zuckerberg, while a Harvard sophomore, initially created a website called "Facemash" where students could rate each other's attractiveness.
It gained popularity, evolving into "The Facebook".
THEN it started to connect people all over the world! I think there are over 3 BILLION active users.

I was on the verge of joining Facebook but decided I do not want people to know my business so I never joined
Many people open a FB account with false information to help disguise their identity and then go around trying to convince family and friends that it’s really them.

I use it to keep in touch with family and a few old friends.

I rarely post anything and mainly use the messenger feature to have a few conversations.

FB is what you choose to make it.

You might be able to use a search engine to find their menu without fb.

There's risk offline too if someone has a reader within 3 ft of you.

I also had my phone number stolen that way.

you can usually google and find the website and therefore the menus of a place without needing Facebook.

However having a website costs money - so small clubs will often set up a Facebook page for free and use that
