We have the right to call a person on it if we disagree, but I see no reason to start a special thread to ask for withdrawal of a post or make such a big darn deal about it.

Wasn't George H.W. Bush the Former CIA Boss, VP and Potus that nodded for Thomas ?
Has those ulterior motives years, decades in planning being what we endure.

Why does this matter? It seems trivial to bring this up when there are more important things to discuss like the rising cost of peanuts to peanut butter conversion or the distance between two points in mountain standard time compared to EST during DST.

Where have you been? For months it’s been all over the news about the loans he was given by wealthy people that eventually were forgiven. He didn’t report these as he was required to do and he got a free 267k RV and then didn’t recuse himself from an issue before the court that affected the industry from which the gift came.

I understand there is a real danger of presidents not being charged w crimes for actual criminal acts as happens in third world countries, and countries w dictators like Putin, who is a war criminal.

Yes I heard some of it but ....... Honest question, just how ethical would you be, if you were in position to receive 'gifts' ? I think just about all people in power, people of position receive such favors. [jmo]

There are people that just aspire to rise to such positions , and in some cases have both the intelligence and education to be successful in those positions, and like it or not, we need them.

Fame opens doors, it shouldn't but it does ... just the simple truth.

So you like and admire them. You are entitled to your opinion but I don’t share it. I’m quite sure spending personal time with Alito and Thomas wouldn’t move the needle for me. I prefer justices who do not accept gifts from wealthy donors and who demonstrate respect for settled law.

It’s really not that hard to be ethical. I spent my career working for the state and we weren’t allowed to take gifts worth more than $5. I can’t tell you how many times grateful clients tried to give me nice gifts and I always declined. A coworker on the other hand not so much for ethics and did take them. No one respected her.

I understand completely , and have a similar background/past.

But the painful truth is .... if we remove from position all those without pure ethics, we would have virtually no one to do the job (s) .

For all here whom believe in Jesus, God, Religion the whole bit [I do not] . It is said that Jesus was perfect ..... they killed him ......... jus-sayin'

If the rules and regulations around gift acceptance for members of Congress are followed then we would not have these questions about the gifts that are over the top.

The president's term is limited. Maybe the downside is lack of continuity. But the upside is reduced corruption.
