We were planning to attend a Christmas party, a Christmas Eve get together with his side of the family including potluck and gift exchange, and. Christmas Day celebration with my side, kids and grands, also potluck and gift exchange.

I’ve tested positive for Influenza A. I’ve had the flu shot.

I’ve never felt so sick. I ache in every joint, I’m coughing constantly, my abs are screaming from all the coughing, and my throat’s on fire. I have no appetite, I’m nauseous, My head’s pounding, I have diarrhea annd really bad cramps, and I’m extremely fatigued. Interestingly I only ran a low grade fever for a day, and have only a slight stuffy nose.

I’ve not ever had flu before. I shudder to think what I’d feel like without the shot. I’m praying Ron doesn’t get it, he’s still recovering from a bout of pneumonia that hit about 4 weeks ago.

I’ve barely gotten off the couch or out of bed. I’m not used to feeling this bad. I’m very healthy and hardly ever even get a cold. I don’t know how long this is going to last, I just hope I start feeling better soon.

Are you still within the first 48 hours, if so maybe you can get an anti-viral drug prescribed that will help?

If you have never ever had influenza, that would be quite rare. If true, it could explain why you now have more severe symptoms, as your body's immune system only had the flu shot defense build-up. Unpleasant, but must be endured a few days and fought by one's own body immune system. Orient your head/neck to reduce gravity flow sinus drainage into your bronchial tubes/lungs lest pneumonia possibly arise. Be strong @Ronni !

If it started within the last 48 hours, you can get antiviral drugs that may tackle some of the symptoms. Otherwise, about all you can do is take Tylenol (no more than 8 per day, which equals 4 Grams.) And of course, drink plenty of water and Gatorade to help with losing electrolytes and minerals. And, Chicken Soup or Broth.

Hope you feel better soon and try to have a Merry Christmas.

@OldFeller and @MrPants its an over the counter test for Influenza A, influenza B, and Covid. Available at any Grocery store pharmacy or local Drug store. Various brands, two tests to a pack. This is a Binax test I think. Walgreens carries its own brand. I think CVS does too.
We have Walgreens tests. I used the flu test once this year and I tested positive for B (I think).

What you have, Ronni, is very contagious.

Oh no ! So sorry to discover you’re sick. It’s especially difficult when you have to cancel plans made to spend time with family and friends. Hopefully Ron won’t get it and can help look after you.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
