I like fast food.

Oh, this thread is sooo GROSS!
Especially the visual in post #15. That ought to make everyone drive-on-by the grossness.

For me Never!....with one exception:
I recently tried Chick-fil-A. They use Farm to Table Chicken.
The non-greasy Fried Chicken pieces and Iced Tea I ordered were very good. Good prices too.

Chick-fil-A sources 100% real, whole, boneless breast of chicken that has never been ground or separated, and that contains no fillers or added steroids or hormones*. Our chicken is raised in barns (not cages), on farms in the United States, in accordance with our Animal Wellbeing Standards, and with No Antibiotics Ever (since May 2019).

I will have a Chik-fil-A basic sandwich. Why is the fried version so much cheaper than the grilled version? IDK. Fried anything is really bad for us in general. Sorry.

I will also have an In-N-Out burger 2 to 4 times a year, but I gave up beef and pork years ago. Do you know you can order a Veggie Burger at In-N-Out, with extra tomato, and they don't even charge you for that extra slice of beefsteak tomato and will also lower the price because they left the meat off? No other fast food place gives extra tomato for free. In-N-Out is a picture of a profit sharing company. Their products are high quality, their managers are well paid, but so are their hourly workers. They have better quality food than the Big Chains, but they pay their workers better overall. A company with a conscience - so refreshing.

It takes a lot of self-discipline to give up these foods that we were all raised with, but I just want to live longer and live well. Don't need any chronic inflammatory disease, thank you. Don't need any heart attacks or strokes. Very much want to show love and appreciation to my arteries by avoiding all the bad-for-us foods that are so cheap and easy to get.

Fast food gets a bad rap because a steady diet leads to health problems. If you ate the exact same homecooked meal as a steady diet, you'd have health issues, too. Try eating just lasagna for the rest of your life. Fast food is food. There is no "health" food. We should eat a varied diet to get all the nutrients we need.
I love a McDonald's cheeseburger, fries and a coke.

I don't eat meat. I once did. But years ago in Santa Cruz this place call "McDharma's" opened up in an old foster freeze. They made vegetarian burgers. They were so good and the staff was always nice.

Years later after moving away, I visited Santa Cruz and they had moved to a bigger location and changed their name to "Dharma's" and it was a terrible pretentious place. I did eat there and it wasn't very good.

I sure wish there was some good veggie fast food around. Though I have no problems getting calories.

I like fast food.

It's easy to bash fast food places. But I love McDonald's fries, and a Whopper. Most of the burger joints make an edible product. And let's face it, when you want a quick good meal, nobody is searching for a low calorie kelp salad place. How about you? Do you secretly like fast food?
No, just no. 🤪

Just because I do not eat it now doesn't mean I didn't love it. I did. Especially the whopper with fries! Now I cannot see spending that amount of money on it when I can make the same thing at home for a lot less. Maybe if they were within walking distance I would get it every now and then but they aren't.
Make it for a lot less and it tastes way better
The only time we have junk food is when we are travelling long distance

Me too, like fast food. :)

Why didn’t the health department close them down?
They probably did.

I worked at a very busy McDonald's in the early 70 while a college student. It was always immaculate - you could practically eat off the floors. There was absolutely no nonsense going on behind the scenes, no over-salting cranky customers' meals, no spitting in food, no "rescuing" food that had been dropped, etc.

If you didn't have a customer or food prep work, you were cleaning or restocking. No lollygagging. By and large, the managers were adults in their 30s & up and staff were HS and college students.

McD's sent periodic pop-in inspectors with far more stringent standards than local health departments. They looked like other customers and would order food, then (unbeknownst to us) grade the food temperature, freshness and quality, store appearance, bathroom conditions, parking lot cleanliness, employee appearance and demeanor, etc.

After eating, they'd show ID proving they were corporate inspectors and were immediately given full access to the back, where they'd inspect EVERYTHING from the temperature of the refrigerators and freezers to the cleanliness of the food prep area, etc, etc.

Fail their inspection and they could close the franchise temporarily. Or permanently.

Other than considerations about the healthfulness of the food - and lack thereof - I've never had anxiety about eating at a McDonald's.

I worked at McD's too in the 70s. I dont know what they are mopping the floors with in today's McD's, but some of them have such slippery floors. They are not mopping them right.

Our McD's was very clean, we were always cleaning during slow times, but I also saw many a young woman experience sexual harassment, not from our manager but from the slimy regional managers. Disgusting, vile, creepazpoids. Creepy middle-aged men and older, hitting on the 18-year-olds. So gross! Some of the young women would laugh it off, deflect the unwanted attention with jokes. Some would freeze and look like they wanted to disappear right there, or throw themselves into the french fry frier for a quick death. Then men wonder why women still march in the streets, yelling for our rights to be left alone. Making $2.50 an hour and we had to put up with that junk, back in the day.

It's no secret; I like fast food. We only eat it 3-4 times a year, though.

I've never liked McDonald's. Their burgers are bland, and decent fries don't make up for a bland burger. Dairy Queen and Wendy's have tasty burgers, and Burger King does the best chicken sandwich.

The 3rd job I ever had was at a Fosters Freeze. It was the first time I didn't work for someone in my family, so, even though I had to wear their dorky paper cap and an overly starched white apron, I felt really independent.

When you worked at a fast-food place, one of the employee benefits was 1 free meal per 8hr shift. (come to think of it, that was the only employee benefit)

I worked at Foster Freeze for nearly a year, so I had a fast-food dinner 5 days a week for about 10 months straight. Fortunately, their burgers were really good. But the meat was way better back then. It wasn't 30 to 50 % filler, didn't have all the flavorful animal fat trimmed away, and it wasn't full of chemical preservatives like it is now.

Sad to say, that kind of behavior was commonplace back than and certainly not limited to McD's, low wage earners or very young women.

I save fast food for when I am on a long drive during a road trip. I use fast food outlets to take plenty of short 15 to 20 minute breaks from driving. I so this every 90 minutes to two hours. A cup of coffee with half-n-half, and a cheeseburger will keep me doing until the next stop. There are times in remote areas where I bill bring picnic snax.

McD's, Burger King and such, didn't come along (in my area) 'til my late teens or early 20's (1951, 52?). I've had my share of their "goodies" but my life time wife has always been very conscious of cooking "healthy". At 90 and 87 we probably haven't much time left but if I'm hungry while out and about, any place will do, especially if I don't have to get out of the car.

In all fairness, neither of us are or have been drinkers or smokers which may or may not have helped.

I don't see why fast food is considered junk. It's just food. What's junk about a hamburger? Is it any worse than what I would make at home? An Arby's roast beef sandwich is sliced roast beef on a bun with some horse radish sauce. KFC's chicken is just fried chicken and their cole slaw seems pretty healthy to me. Of course, if you stuff yourself with shakes and fries that's not the best meal.

I saw a picture of McD's fries today and it made me want some. But I wouldn't have walked downtown to get any at that time of day. Traffic gets real busy around here starting about 2:45. I also love McD's egg and cheese biscuit but only have it, maybe three times a year. . Other favorites are Taco Bells bean chalupas and KFC's coleslaw. Also only have each of those a every now and then. I don't need to buy fast food hamburgers too often because I make turkey burgers at home. I don't eat nearly as much fast food as I used to.

When we lived in AZ, we would occasionally stop for a burger if we were running errands, etc.. We loved Culver's burgers (I believe they're a CA based franchise) and In-N-Out Burger. We use to get burgers at Five Guys but they got too expensive for us. Also, when we lived in TX, my late hubby loved Whataburger.
I used to work with one of the heiresses of the Whataburger empire. She is an idle lady of wealth, now. She was a good photojournalist (though she couldn't shoot sports for shit) but she was an ok person. I cracked her up when I said food is a fashion statement.

No, just beer drinkers and hell raisers (thank you ZZ Top). :D :D :D
