I Need Motivation to Diet Right

A real good suggestion. I did it with breakfest at 8 a.m. and lunch at 1 p.m. Nothing else and at least 5 days a week. It worked quite well, but takes time. And it doesn't work for everyone. It's worth a try.
You know, I might try IF that way. I don't have luck fasting through to lunch but I know that when I have a huge lunch I don't need dinner.
The morning fast sounds good because you're adding to the sleeping hours but I get dizzy and weak if I skip breakfast.
Thanks. I'll try it.

When I was doing IF, it was pretty easy for me because I switched us to a very early dinner to help with it. I'd read that the customary window was 16/8 but there was also some indication that women do better with 15 hours. What I did was have our dinner at 4 or 4:30 and then nothing until 7 or 8 a.m. which meant I didn't have to skip any meals at all, just change the timing. I also did low carb at the same time (but not keto... doc didn't like that idea at all!) Worked like a charm, and I was never an after dinner snacker anyhow.

Any luck?

I've just gained since November it seems when stuck at home with covid and food. I plan to get out walking. I agree, best is to not buy because once those treats are in the cupboard, I have no willpower.

I hate to floss and brush my teeth. So if I do so early enough, I won't eat again because I don't want to floss and brush again.

Hello, I've been a nutrition educator for 20 years and talk to so many folks who struggle with weight loss. "Diets" seem to be the PROBLEM. Instead, if we can recognize what is in most of the products on the grocery aisles, and that most of it is not "food" (which is meant to nourish and make us healthier), we can begin a new way of eating and living.

I've decided recently that you are exactly right. Diets are the problem.
No more for me.
I always liked Michael Pollans saying, Eat Real Food, Not Too Much, Mostly Plants.
I'll add: Enough protein.
That's it. Why make life more complicated?

Well, I'm on day 3. Big deal. I wanted to go for a short walk this AM but it's raining pretty good.

I went shopping yesterday. No junk, no pasta. I'll bake some potatoes I can just heat up and I got some frozen riced cauliflower, I'll cook with tofu. I did get a loaf of Dave's Killer sprouted wheat thin sliced bread. I may put it in the freezer after a few days. I keep bread in the fridge.

I'll make some oatmeal later this morning.

I'm Type2 Diabetic. I've always struggled with weight loss, but in the past 10 years I had to have a Triple by-pass which resulted in
a healthy diet and a walking regime. I never drink sweet drinks, only Sparkling Mineral Water. I've even gone off cakes but spoil myself
with 2 pieces of Lindt 70% Dark Chocolate per night. I do like pasta dishes but only serve myself in soup bowls. I've worked it out , it's
not the quality of food but the quantity. Fresh is best . Every morning I make a Tonic of : 1 small piece of fresh Ginger, grated in to a half
glass of warm water, 1 capful of Apple Cider Vinegar, cut a Lime in half and squeeze in glass, a pinch of Cinnamon, a pinch of Turmeric,
and a half teaspoon of Honey. Mix it all together and drink it. I use a straw and rinse the mouth so the acid can't harm your teeth. I was told
these elements cut the fat in our bodies. I've lost 1kg in the past 3 weeks. I only want to lose 3 kgs otherwise everything starts to slide
downhill and I might look like an old hag.

I hope this thread helps others because I feel like I am being preached to already. So may this thread helps someone else 😉

I Need Motivation to Diet Right - What do you suggest?
That is a hard one. What has most consistently worked for me is joining some kind of group with the goal of dieting and weight loss, reporting regularly, and supporting one another in doing it. Could be some kind of live thing, face to face, or online.

It does not always work for me, and I can't say why it sometimes does and sometimes doesn't.

Losing weight is tough, best of luck to you!

If you do not want to go for a walk, maybe you might like to check out the senior exercise programs that are offered on YouTube.
Some of my favorites are offered by Denise Austin, Silver Sneakers, Improved Health, and Walk at Home.
They are free, diversified and appropriate for all levels of fitness.

I never understand this thing about dieting. I'm not being nasty. Why don't you just eat when you are hungry and stop when you are satisfied? Are you bored or stressed so that you are trying to fill those needs with food? Try learning something new and challenging if you are bored or stressed. I eat everything, desserts , junk food, etc. but always lots of veggies. It's not rocket science. I have been slim all of my life. Of course if you have diabetes or some other medical issue, that would be handled through your doctor. And of course if you are struggling with stress, again your doctor will be able to help you. I wish you luck.

I love sweets; cake, cookies, ice cream, donuts, candy, even jelly and jam.

So for Lent this year I gave all that up for 40 days, even cereals and breads had to have only 1 or 2 grams added sugar.

Since I usually eat quite a bit of that junk and have something like ice cream every evening before bed, I figured this would make a big enough calorie deficit to lose about ten pounds.

I didn't lose an ounce.

You're blessed, many of the rest of us are not and it's not as simple as you pretend it is, as a result, you display a lack of empathy so what you write does sound "nasty."

For instance your comment about stress is not "real world." How exactly is a dr going to alleviate the stress of raising children, running a business, or dealing w difficult family matters? Have they been hiding a stress relief Rx from me all these years?
