I remember the first I...fill in the blank

I remember the first time I drank Coca Cola. The time was early 1960s. We lived on the campus of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. We were all in the car, mom, myself and younger brother my dad was driving. Don't know the details but somehow our car was hit and my younger brother was thrown from the car. The. crazy thing was none of went to the hospital, anyway a woman invited into her home and gave us CocaCola to drink.

Another first time was when I tried marijuana. My younger brother was already engaged in specialized anti-inhibitors of the sort so I asked to try some. In the dark of night we ventured beyond our house to behind the neighbor's backyard shed. I cannot recall getting high or stoned from the venture, but the experience set into motion further experiences through experimentation. Just for the record marijuana had an adverse affect on me most likely because of an undiagnosed mental health condition

I remember the first time I ate at a Chinese restaurant, probably back in 1974. Growing up, the only "Chinese" food I had was chow mein out of a can, so when Dave said the Engineer's Club was having a dinner at a Chinese restaurant, I was pretty skeptical. We sat at large, round tables, and the food was served family style. So I thought, "Well, at least I can eat the rice." LOL! Everything smelled wonderful, though, and tasted even better. Sweet and sour pork! Mongolian beef! Lemon chicken! I'm pretty sure I heard angels sing. My mother had about 10 very plain meals she cooked for dinner, and of course dorm food was pretty simple, as well. It certainly opened my mind up to other possibilities. Still love Asian food to this day.

I remember the first time I smoked a cigarette... the hot smoke, the smell, the taste. It was an old-fashioned hand-rolled cigarette, which probably made the experience worse.

I remember the first time I got tipsy (alcohol induced). A cousin and I decided we'd have a little nip. I took it all in stride and enjoyed the experience, but to this day don't care much for alcohol.

I remember the first time I got up on, and rode a two-wheel bike. We practiced on the lawn so when we fell, the landing was soft, and we didn't skin the meat off our legs and hands.

I remember the first time I changed diapers on one of my baby sisters.

While I don't remember my first day of school, I do remember that no matter how I got, the first day of school after summer vacation always felt like the first time.

The air would be fresh and cool, everyone wearing new shoes and outfits and clothing, sporting new school bags, etc.

My first day of kindergarten will go down in infamy! I was so nervous and anxious that I threw up all over my beautiful two piece red velvet outfit soon after my mom left. (Okay, I'll admit I was a tad overdressed for the occasion.)

I had to wait in the principal's office in my barfy outfit for mom to come back with a change of clothes. I was utterly devastated and felt like a poor little failure. 😭

awww... you poor thing.

I would have picked you up from school and driven you back home, seen you into a fresh clean outfit, and made a batch of homemade cookies for you had I been your mom. :)

I've just had Chinese food for dinner.. take-out... sweet & sour Prawn balls, and pork dumplings... 🥠🍤

I remember the first time my parents took me to see a dentist. I must admit I was nervous as I didn't know what to expect from the man in the white outfit in the strange looking "dentist" office. The experience was OK and at the end of the visit I was rewarded with my choice of lollypop from the nice lady that worked there.

That was quite a treat for me so I didn't mind going back for return visits just to get that candy LOL. Growing up I usually only got some candy or chocolate 2X a year, at Christmas and Easter, so anything beyond that was a bonus.

The first time I ever saw a television. It was winter and snowing heavily. (big, soft flakes) it was in the window of a hardware store. "The Lone Ranger" was playing. (black and white) I was 13 at the time and had my nose pressed up against the icy window.
Until then, we watched the radio. Listened to "Fibber McGee and Molly", "My friend Irma" "The Checkerboard Square"., "Walter Conkrite". I was astonished at the technology. It was like traveling into the future! haha! I remember standing there with my mouth wide open, gasping and in awe!

I also remember the first time I had a shower, as opposed to a bath. In my family, women bathed and men showered. At that point, I was about thirteen, a horrible age, and my parents were divorced, not friendly. On a visitation weekend, I went with my father to visit his new wife's relatives, and my new "cousins." I said something about taking a bath, and was roundly ridiculed. "Ew! You sit in your own dirt!" Well, you know how teenagers can be. So I decided to give the shower a try. Again, I heard angels sing. It was sublime, compared the the two inches of water my mother let me run in the tub. I don't remember those people's names, but I remember that shower. And I am eternally grateful. Sincerely grateful. My mother, when I told her I would no longer bathe, but instead shower, was appalled, but had the good sense to keep quiet, a rare instance. I'm sure she added it to the long list of grievances she had against me. It was worth it.

As an aside, I let my daughter, when she was small, to fill up the tub at least half way. And I introduced her to the shower early.

I remember the first time I used a desktop computer. The hospital where I was employed had me take a course at the community college to learn the 'ropes'.

The first time I thought I saw color tv. My friend, down the street, came running in and said we got color tv. Come and see it. A colorful piece of cellophane was put over the screen. Green feet, yellow middles and red and blue heads. Yeah right, color tv my arse.
