I voted early!

I honestly don't know why there was all the fuss about making voting safe. They had all the same precautions up as in grocery stores, the stylus was in one of those things you pass it through to sanitize it. Hand sanitizer everywhere. Masks on everyone. Took about twenty minutes. People were coming in steadily, but the line moved quickly. They did move the polling place because our usual polling place was taking drop-off ballots only.
 

Today's paper had an article about the enormous enthusiasm for early voting, both in person and by the use of ballot boxes and mail-in ballots. Over 15 million people have voted already, an unprecedented number.

I dropped mine in the ballot box Oct. 2, and within a few days got an official notice that it had been received!

If you haven't voted yet, do it now, if possible.
 
I sent in my absentee ballot in last week. My husband filled out the application to get his absentee ballot at the same time I did, but he never got his ballot. He called the courthouse and the ballot was "LOST" in the mail. Sounds fishy to me. Anyway, he went to the courthouse and voted his absentee ballot himself right then.

Because of my low immunity, I'm not supposed to be around other people, especially crowds of people. Voting early is the best way for me this time.
 
I will vote in person on election day. I don't trust mail in balloting. Our new voting machines have a paper trail, so if something looks amiss it can be recounted.

Early and/or mail in voting has become a partisan issue here. Generally speaking, Democrats want more people to vote and Republicans want fewer people to vote. Democrats oppose the use of photo ID at polling places and want restoration of voting rights for felons. Republicans would prefer in-person voting, with ID, on the day of the event. They don't sponsor "Get out the vote" drives because an influx of young/poor/minority voters disfavors Republican candidates.

I'm trying to state the case objectively here. Others may disagree.

Hollydolly, we have had early voting for those who prefer it, for a long time now. It used to be because of convenience, people were going to be traveling or otherwise unavailable on Election Day, etc. This year, the coronavirus comes into it as well. Many of the usual polls (such as schools and community centers) are closed. There are alternative polling places set up, but many of them are far away from where people live, or people just don't know where they are. And people are worried about spending hours in long lines. So voting early by mail or drop box is becoming more and more attractive.


According to today's paper, the early voters favor Biden 2 to 1. The Trump supporters hope they will catch up on Election Day. Many of the early voters said they wanted to get their votes recorded as a statement against the "status quo." Can't go any further discussing that aspect of it. But I probably can say this: as JimBob said, it's very much along partisan lines. We seem to have become two nations. I wonder when somebody is just going to name this "Civil War II."
 
I voted also and dropped off mom's and my ballot in the registrar's box at the local town hall. As Sunny said, we've had early voting for some time and people can choose absentee voting anytime when they need to. I just wanted to get it done and I did in case there would be any difficulties on or around election day.

Well, I think it came about because of long lines on Election Day. So in Texas we can vote early. I’m OK with that. We can also vote with drop off ballots. The theory is that it gives everyone, including shut-ins a chance to vote. But mail in ballots seems to me To be rife with fraud.

Agree. We voted in person today; it wasn't crowded at all and I was in and out in 10 minutes.
 
Rife with fraud? Don't trust the U.S. mail? Hmm, where did that idea come from?

I haven't yet heard any explanation for this ridiculous suspicion of the U.S. mail that's been planted, and naively believed. Exactly how is this "fraud" supposed to be taking place? Do you think that nice guy who delivers your mail every day is confiscating some of the envelopes? Only those envelopes that look like they contain a vote for the "wrong" party? How would they know? All the envelopes look alike.

Do you think the mail service has been invaded by evil functionaries of one of our political parties, who have escaped from a John Le Carre novel? Wow, and all this time I thought they were just delivering the mail!

Seriously, if you really believe that such political intrigue is going on (or possibly could go on here in the U.S.), why limit it to the post office? Wouldn't your ballot be more likely to be "misfiled," get "lost," right there at the polls, the evil deed being done by a poll worker rather than a neutral mailman? Seems to me that going in person and possibly standing in line for many hours, and finally handing your ballot over to a poll volunteer could more easily lead to your vote being compromised.

For those who think along those lines, anyway.
 
I voted by mail 2 weeks ago. I took pains to make sure my signature on the mailing envelope matched the one on my registration form.

Why did I vote already? Well, let's see:
I always vote early!
Furthermore, I made up my mind a long time ago. I can never understand how the campaigning
has gone on for more than a year and supposedly there's still about 7% who can't
make up their minds. With voting behind me, tonight I am enjoying a baseball playoff
game instead watching dueling townhalls by the two candidates.

I certainly would not wait until election day. What happens if I get sick? Or it is too cold or snowy outside?

I would like dignity to be restored in the WH.
 
Even before the Covid-related concerns regarding crowds ...added to the reasons for having availability for voting to be on more than one day,
the lines were getting way too long, for many people to be able to be on them for that long.
The population has become too large for that, seems to me.

I am glad that Early voting has extended options for people to vote when they are able to.
Many need to work or care for others, or stay at home, and missed being able to vote, when it was limited to all on one day.

I am going to vote twice for trump, my first vote by mail, will get lost for sure, so I will walk in the voting place and hand in my vote, in person, and vote again. I could order my ballot from amazon or eBay, but it might not make it in time, ha ha. the left. sure does like to stir the country up , with all this voting garbage .
