Driver caught using cell phone jamming device.

MYFOXNY.COM - A Florida man is facing a $48,000 fine for using a "jammer" in his SUV to keep people around him off of the phone while he was driving.
The Federal Communications Commission says that Jason R. Humphreys used a phone jammer in his vehicle during his daily commute on I-4 between Seffner and Tampa for about two years before he was caught.
Metro PCS alerted the Feds of an issue in April of 2013. The company noticed that its cell phone tower sites had been experiencing interference during the morning and evening commutes.
Agents from the FCC used direction finding techniques to find that strong wideband emissions were coming out of a blue Toyota Highlander SUV driven by Humphreys.
The FCC says that Hunphreys admitted to using the jammer to keep people from talking on their phones while driving.
Federal law prohibits the operation of jamming devices in the United States.
The FCC says that jamming devices cannot be authorized because they can compromise the integrity of the nation's communications infrastructure, including 911 and police calls during an emergency.

I think that is a great idea, and if enough people actually had one, they would not be able to tell where the jamming was coming from, since it would be all over in a lot of the cars. But, of course, then they would have to develop some kind of racking device to catch people with the jammers.
Even though I think that it would be great if people could not use their phone to just chatter away the time driving home, I can see that it is important for emergency communications. I just really hate sitting there after the light turns green while waiting for that first person in line to get off the phone ! !

So, the jamming devices just work on phones in cars moving along highways?
If I'm stationary and waiting on the footpath I can still use my phone?
Can I still phone for assistance if my car has broken down?
Yes? That's OK then. Go ahead everyone, do your thing as much as you like.

Does it work on CB sets too?

I can't believe the lack of common sense on the roads, seems the heavy traffic gets, the less common sense we develop. I can see what's missed on a highway or even country road, just when I blink!! So now I scotch-tape my eyes so I can't blink, the thought of what I could miss scares me too much:(

All due respect Pappy, but around here, it's usually older, contractor types I see yackin on cell-phones, or women out and about. I say if you have to talk to someone every hour of the day, at least get a blue-tooth device. But I see driving as something you need ALL your attention on, including your brain, or lack there of.

Can we get one to jam their cars, too. Love to send those insane drivers to the side of the road with smoke pouring out from under the hood.

Ive been laughing my ash off everytime I see that guy end up on that rail.I wish it was mandatory for those type of drivers.lol

Thanks ,that guy

Just about everyone is texting and driving here. What I do now is "drive and honk". I have lost my patience. Every time the light turns green I make sure and honk the horn to alert the texter in front of me. It has come down to that. Florida made it a law not to drive and text but vetoed any kind of promotion so that not many people are aware of the law AND it is a secondary offense so, the officer would have to stop you for a different reason first. Maybe when the cops get annoyed of having to drive 30 on a 55 mph freeway they will change it.

Sorry but I would never drive and honk at any other driver no matter what he/she is doing.

A lot`of drivers have handguns with them now,its a lot easier for them to just shoot at you and run like hell.
