My favorite local library has three huge shelving area of used books. You can basically leave some and take some or have the option of leaving a small donation in the drop box. It's very low key but immensely popular...a wonderful way to circulate used titles. But there is a group of gentlemen who come in sometimes. They'll block shelves and seem to be zapping random books with their phones.

I imagine they're trying to find books with resale value? But I take my book searching very seriously...that Michael J. Fox book is MINE, I saw it first, likewise the India travel guide, don't even think about touching that High Holiday joke book. So today I came in and in back of me is one of the smart phone guys. I turned and glared, I almost said out loud " Watch it I bite!". But no...but I did make him wait till I was done.

It's funny though, when I come to the book sales here, they are huge. N' everyone shops like me. A few times a year they open a conference area and put all the used books out. Bring your boxes and bags and have a party for under ten bucks. I've never seen those guys at the sales. It's a good thing too. I can see this whole mob of deranged seniors dragging them out and dropping them at the curb. OUR BOOKS WHIPPERSNAPPERS

Could they be doing an inventory?

I'm pretty much hooked on audio books right now until I can get my glasses fixed.

That's pretty weird. As you said, they're probably looking up resale prices.

It's a shame that such a wonderful system of distributing books has to be poisoned by there clowns.

Nah these are used books only so the library doesn't check them in. This is the hoodie I wear almost daily...you best NOT get between me and my books...I casually pull out my stun gun...after the pepper spray...

We have a wonderful library. Both my wife and myself read a LOT of books. Yet, people will abuse anything. Was in the library a couple days ago. A "gentleman" was talking LOUD on his cell phone. He was talking a "... don't trust those cops..." and using some really foul language. I believe the staff was reluctant to ask him to tone it down, simply due to his demeanor. I went to the counter and asked the lady if she wanted me to ask him to take his cell phone conversation outside. She told me she didn't want trouble and had the police on the way to handle the situation. I should have stuck around, but didn't.
One of the most difficult things to accept that we have seen in our lifetime is the growing lack of respect for other people.

So sadly true, not the library I mentioned but a smaller one closer to home. At 3 pm the schools let out including the middle school across the street. You do not want to be there. Little beasts, and the sad thing is the librarians seem almost afraid of them. I just shake my head and at 2:45 I am out of there.

But really one serious grown up acting like a grown up. Their parents can't sue you for at least showing some authority. I would love to have the opportunity..." OKAY HOLD UP, NOW HOLD UP, IF YOU WANT TO COME IN THE LIBRARY YOU KEEP YOUR VOICES DOWN, DO YOUR SCHOOLWORK WHAT EVAH BUT IF YOU WANT TO ACT UP YOU ARE GOING OUT THE DOOR".

Then for the wisebutts " OKAY YOU GIVE ME YOUR PARENTS PHONE NUMBER AND I WILL CALL THEM AND TELL THEM HOW THEIR CHILD IS BEHAVING IN A PUBLIC PLACE". Really these kids need somebody to take the reins here.

I do like the idea of a box of books free to take and donate back. Our local library does that too along with jigsaw puzzles and magazines. Recyling at it's best.
