"Ugly sweater" is an annual joke that turns up every year just before Xmas. It refers to those loud, gaudy sweaters that some people like to wear to Xmas parties. Our theatre group here is having an Ugly Sweater Singalong early in December this year. I don't own one, guess I'll have to try the thrift shops. Or maybe they sell them online.

Lake-effect snow!
(This is the term used to describe the unusually high amounts of snowfall, during winters in the Northern USA areas, just this side of the Great Lakes. When the cold Canadian air crosses over those chilly waters, it causes extra snowfall totals, on the other side.)
