I don't really believe that married people live longer because they are married. Maybe it is because couples eat better meals and single people tend to not cook a regular meal. Just microwave something quick. Could also be as couples they are more active. It is true that on average married people live longer, but I am not sure of the cause and effect in that.
Do people live longer because they are married, or are more healthy people more likely to get married?
you could well be right, Kat... I have found since my husband has been gone this last year, that I don't have the incentive to go out every weekend as we usually did when he was here.. I do cook for myself .. because I did before he left.. he was an extremely picky eater, and a Vegan, so I always had to cook for myself..I don't really believe that married people live longer because they are married. Good question! It is true that on average married people live longer, but I am not sure of the cause and effect in that.

One of the easiest mistakes to make in research is interpreting a correlation to be either a cause or an effect.I'm not sure the statistic is real or meaningful.
Interesting, Holly. The statistics I remember from some time ago showed that married men on average outlived single men; single women, again on average, outlived married women. On average, women whether married or not, outlive men, regardless of marital history. Not a chance...Overall , the person who caused me the most angst in my life, was my husband ..so I'll pass!
It can be very stressful being on your own.
Well my stepfather put up with all my mother's abuse, screaming and raging and so far he's lived 4 years beyond her. I can only attribute it to his good physical genes as there is a lot of longevity in his family, both sides. Not near as stressful as listening to some female wagging her tongue , telling me I need to do this or that, and what time to do it.
I'm married (60 years next March) and my affairs are in order. Get it done, Packer.Apparently, this is true. I have read about it in many articles. Unfortunately, I'm single so I better get my things in order; if you know what I mean!
Well, a lot would depend on the bride and groom in question. Or, it could be a living hell. In general, if the relationship is healthy and good, having a life companion boosts all the feel good hormones and endorphins and actually favorably impacts health. It is true that on average married people live longer, but I am not sure of the cause and effect in that.
A pet will love you unconditionally, can't say for certain about a human, who generally look out for their own self interest...Then get a pet.
