'I'm going around giving blessings': Gunman, 32, brags about his random shooting rampage in Chicago's South Side as he kills four

  • The shooting spree began in Chicago around 1:50pm on Saturday
  • Suspect Jason Nightengale, 32, killed four, including a University of Chicago student who was sitting in his car, police said
  • Nightengale also wounded at least three others, including a 15-year-old girl
  • The violence ended after cops killed Nightengale in a Dollar General parking lot
  • No motive has been revealed yet and the victims appear to be random
The article itself is chilling, but at the end is posted the murderer's own video of himself. I see/hear it as the dialogue of a mad man.

Crazy or ?

Every time I hear the excuse, oh, "he/she was a crazy", or "he/she was a loose cannon", or "he/she was unstable", in my view that's a copout.

It's a flimsy excuse (plain and simple) as a way to attempt to downplay and lesson the aftermath of gun related crimes in the USofA.

You'll never here folks in America say, "it's time this country did something to restrict firearms", no way, instead, what you hear is, "sales are up in gun shops", or "record sales have been registered since such and such a shooting".

When you put wood in a fire, it's going to burn. When you allow everyone under the sun to own and carry guns, someone is going to get shot.

It's not overly complex to understand.

Anyhow, I've said my peace and won't be returning to revisit this thread, because repeat shootings and mass shootings aren't going away in the USofA.

I feel for those left behind to pick up the pieces.

Well, my goodness, how lucky we in the US are to have Aunt Marge bestow her wisdom and tell us that she's said her "peace?" and won't be returning to hear any answers to her ridiculous statement. Way to have a discussion, Marg!

About her statement, "You'll never here folks in America say, "it's time this country did something to restrict firearms", no way," that sure would be a surprise to the many thousands who came out for mass anti-gun demonstrations after the Parkland School killings, and all the others. Since she refuses to listen to any answers, she will never know about the robust anti-gun movement in this country. She will never know that certain parts of the country do worship their firearms and apparently equate them with masculinity (or something!) but other parts of the country are horrified and disgusted by all the mayhem. She will never know how wrong she is, and will probably continue to spout ignorant generalizations about the USofA (nobody calls it that, Marg, except maybe Archie Bunker).

The sad thing about this is that she and I are on the same side. Like millions and millions of other Americans, I am horrified by the prevalence of guns, especially among a certain contingent of the population. I am an active participant in the anti-gun movement, and would like to see the gun shops closed down permanently. But hearing someone spouting nonsense about what you "never hear" in this country, apparently ignorant about the fact that Americans have been screaming about the need for gun control ... well let's just say it does nothing to help the gun control movement.

Two years ago, I was placed on a medication, which caused a large amount of internal bleeding. It got to the point that I became "septic"- I couldn't fight off infections. I was delirious, and hallucinating. I believed the ceiling molding in my home was shooting out death rays, and people on the 'jewelry 'channel on TV. were "fish people"- their hands turned into fins. To me, those things were the absolute truth-hell, I could see it. Having worked in a mental hospital for years, I never suspected how real delusions, and hallucinations could be..

Poor fuzzy! :(

I should have known better than to start this thread. When will I learn these reports always end up in gun control arguments, when my intent is to discuss options for these young men who are so mentally ill?

I guess there are no options for them. Remove the guns, but we still have a problem with mental illness in this country especially among younger men so full of rage and out of touch with reality.

Sorry I started this thread. :(

No. I think it's a good idea. Whether this guy was able to get his hands on a weapon is irrelevant. If he wasn't hallucinating, and "sick", he wouldn't have been a problem, and no one would have died.

Well thank you very VERY much.... Love seeing folks stand up against law abiding citizens because of a small minority of idiots... .
You know... the one that dont obey existing laws already.
So its obvious we need more antigun ownership.... since law breakers wont obey laws

The vast majority of gun laws apply to the end user, not the sellers or the manufacturers where the gun problem emanates from.

Effective gun laws would entail placing restrictions on the manufacture and sale of guns and ammunition.

It wouldn't cure the problem overnight given all the guns that are floating around society already, but over time I believe we'd begin to see a drop in gun violence.

Guy was obviously nuts. Off his meds, couldn't afford his meds, couldn't find his meds, given the wrong meds, given the wrong diagnosis, too gone to even go to the doctor, etc., etc.

The drug cartels in Mexico support your idea 100%. They would crank up their gun making ability and would have an uncontested market here in the States. We can't keep their drugs off our streets or even out of our prisons, so how in the world we keep their guns from flooding our neighborhoods?

I've never heard that drug cartels in Mexico were also gun manufacturers.

Given that gun manufacturing is a complex process that requires a high degree of precision machine work performed by skilled craftsmen and machinists, something I doubt there is a large supply of in Mexico, I cannot imagine any guns they'd turn out would command a high enough price to make them worth the time and effort.

JMHO.

I know there are legitimate gun factories down there who contract with the Mexican govt.

Seems those would be easier to control.

Well to address this subject from a different angle I was watching a nature show last night and it showed to beautifully colored birds fighting. Late it showed other little creatures like ground hogs then large antlered animals fighting and last insects. It is what it is.
