Is discussing the media a no no?

I had a post that never appeared and was wondering if it was deemed political or controversial.

Your thread appeared, and was deleted. Camouflaging a political discussion with an innocent thread title doesn't fly.
 

We have banned politics on this forum for a few months, don't you know?

Your thread was about Donald Trump, yes, it's very political.

Actually it has got several replies before it's removed.
 
Media??? Do we still have some...especially cable TV news media??? It seems that whenever I tune into one of those channels, all I see are some talking heads voicing their opinions...between endless "Ask Your Doctor" drug commercials.

What a bunch of crap. I never once mentioned Donald Trump. And all I asked for was a yes or no response. I guess moderators can interpret posts any way they like, sorta like the media does wit news.

You DID mention Trump specifically and by name, you asked if people felt media was picking on him.

The 'media' is too broad a term. I don't watch the major news channels any longer as they don't have news. They have one or two stories, then spend the day with groups of pundits speculating, opining, cheering, or whining. I go online and look at BBC news or other foreign news outlets done in English. We have cable and I can get the English language news from South Korea, China, France, Germany, and UK. They actually discuss what is happening around the world. Anyone with access to online can look at these outlets too.
It's our American 'media' I'm fed up with.
 
I have a media question, which is about the media, not about Donald Trump. Specifically, it's about newspapers.

Have the newspapers lost their objectivity? It used to be that any article in the "news" section (not the editorials) contained factual information only, with no bias one way or another. Or, if there was bias, it was pretty subtle. Lately, the newspapers seem to be editorializing all the time about everything. There are no "objective" news articles any more. By the second sentence, you can tell where the paper stands on this issue.

So, my question is: when and how did this happen? Was it driven by the extremely partisan nature of the TV and radio stations? What ever happened to "just the facts, ma'am?"
 
I flipped through the cable channels while eating breakfast...and there is ONLY ONE thing happening in the world this week, according to Fox, CNN, and MSNBC....OPRAH!!! What a waste of time and electricity! Our local TV news had far more coverage of national events than all these cable channels combined.
 
After the last couple years and media.. I am left wondering If the media was always biased one way or another? Maybe we just did not know as we only really watched it for 30 minutes a night with local news taking in maybe 30 minutes too. 24/7 however has to grab attention to get viewers, I mean how can 24 hours a day be filled?

I the Detroit area many moons ago we had for along time on channel 7 Bill Bonds or as I used to say the News according to Billy. But really that was local news for 30 minutes a night. Our weather was Sunny Elliot. Oh too funny I get so peeved at the 24/7 weather stations scare tactics that we are under some sort of terrible warning, that I say: I just want Sunny back with his wooden pointer stick showing us cloud,sun,rain or snow!
 
I am sick and tired of media BIAS. Just report the news and keep the spin off. People seem willing to be brainwashed and it's sickening.

"United we stand." But the divisiveness in this country will be our downfall, fueled by cable news.

That's why one has to watch, or read, foreign news outlets done in English. And print still has excellent articles. Time magazine, National Review. Like all magazines, they may have political leanings you may not agree with, but IMHO, there is some excellent writing in such magazines.
 
An excellent point, Retiredtraveler.

Foreign news reports often contain a lot less spin and it is eye opening to see how outsiders see events happening in one's own country.

As I understand it, there was a Telecommunications Act passed in the 1990s when Bill Clinton was POTUS. That act removed cross-ownership restrictions of media based companies. Since then they have been bought up so that a handful of very powerful, influential people of dubious ethics and intentions control them. They have become less news oriented and more propaganda oriented, oriented towards whatever it is that those powerful people are up to. There are conspiracy theories out there and most of them mention the Bilderberg Group. You can google them if you are interested. I obviously don't know but it sure seems like the "news" is being manipulated for some purpose.

We were born in the brand new over the airwaves TV News era. There was NBC,CBS,& ABC. That's it. They depended on Congress for their broadcasting ability-the TV channels. So they have to maintain neutrality. They can't be seen as GOP or Dem. Cable news outlets aren't dependent on Congress at all. Cable news outlets can be as political as they want. We all know which cable news outlets favor each persuasion. If you only watch the outlets with which you agree; you have deprived yourself of the total picture.
