Is it worth to move abroad?

After my research, I only save a little $ to move abroad.
Your thoughts?

I have been around a lot, and I would never move anywhere outside of the USA.

Now I do not know where you live, but I can think of many places in the USA that I prefer not to live. I also assume you have no thing driving you to move.

Our country is so diverse, I think anyone can find a place to suit what you want. Start looking here...then if you hate it all....leave for another country!

I'd love to go and live abroad but doubt I could afford to live the lifestyle I'm accustomed to here.

I think it's vital to not be alone in the move. If you are moving as a couple, that's much better than going alone. You will get sick and while emergencies can be handled in all developed nations, long-term recoveries need either paid support, friends, or family to help. Or a combination of all three. I think it's also easier if you're capable of making friends pretty quickly.

I didn't want to leave Massachusetts, but I had to. Had ocean front apartment with balcony. Like New England, feel so at home. Moved for financial reasons. Live NYC, not happy with its noise, constant noise. Have open invitation to move to Florida. Will stay NYC for reasons of the heart, my little tiny family. Lived in Europe young. If I were young, with life still open, I would do it again. Felt even more at home in olde England than New. I'm not young, so here I stay. Have good financial deal here.

Finances have a lot to do with it. In many ways I'm kind of glad I have never visited England because I think I would love it there and find it hard to tear myself away and return to the States. But, I don't really know because a place is very much determined by its people. If the scenery is lovely but you're surrounded by jerks, then a place gets ugly very quickly. Example: San Francisco is lovely but the place has fallen apart. I would never look forward to visiting it. I would be afraid I'd be mugged like Barbara Boxer was. The economic stratification of that area also makes me feel sick to my stomach.

One of the things I like about where I live now, though I cannot afford to stay here, is that there's a lot of generally principled people in the community. The people are really involved with the community and they pay attention so it doesn't fall into a bad state like other, nearby places have.

I think I would love parts of New England as well. I just love the green scenery - love it a lot. New England also seems like a place where people are paying attention. Don't care about the snow and it's not snowing much many years anyway.

Wow, lots of good answers here, and it does depend on your reasons. If it's strictly financial, there are great (in my opinion but possibly not yours) countries to go, but without more info it's impossible to say. For me it's more about freedom and choice (the more basic the better) but others are more used to and desire a higher lifestyle.

I would have to say that if it's only about the $, you may not be ready to retire just yet.

Ive heard that near the Mexican coast you can live much cheaply. Have house keeping, decent health care, safe. But maybe that was 20 yrs ago. I know health care is much cheaper in Europe. Germany and Finland sound wonderful at times. My family is here. I would need a partner.

I have been to many countries in Europe, also Sweden and Great Britan. Don't be fooled. Generally, people in those countries have less income than Americans. Accordingly, many outsides of the USA think Americans have lots more money and live a much higher lifestyle, which is generally true. But things in Europe are generally more expensive than in America. The people have less money and cannot buy those things that Americans would think are just normal everyday things. It is all counter- intuitive! So, if you leave the USA, you will find you have to pay more to have what you had in the USA and you probably will make less money. So be very careful if you want to live elsewhere...things may not be what you expect!

I live in San Diego California, housing is way expensive but grocery is so cheap, nice weather, save money for heating.
For budget living, Mexico, Spain, Thailand are not good deal.

I live abroad at least 6 months a year. I lived abroad for 10 years. But, I kept my home here in the US. For me it is extremely nice. I am thinking of selling out here and leaving for good. Have been traveling now for 15 years. It is very cheap living and so nice . I tend to live in hotels or this last trip was in a small home that the owner partentioned off. I eat out every meal and explore the countries. Flight are cheap in-between cities. What a great life. So far, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Mexico ( I drive down into Mexico) , Colombia
I agree with the post above that you need to be careful. It can get very expensive if you don't know how to travel and when to say NO.

Obviously, the best plan is to die broke, your last heart break, live it the best you can.
Whatever the Bucket list dictates follow it. Most all you got makes not a difference at that final heartbeat.
Tons of Retirees just Cruise, paying the Tips at the beginning.

I have several friends that live in different countries. Cost of healthcare is a biggie. I'd always stay awhile in a country before considering moving there. Remember the grass always to appear to be greener on the other side.

So true, why let the nursing homes or government take your last pennies.

We retired in Europe from North America due to climate and quality of life. But we are looking for a change. Looking for anyone's recommendations/experience. Would like a place warm. Spent 2 winters in Mexico, and while great, we found Mexico to be overpriced now.
