Is my pharmacy THAT clueless?

I haven't seen medicine in a bottle for many years, the
painkillers were the last, all medicine I believe, comes
in blister packs, over here.

You just poke the foil at the back and push the pills out.

Mike.

That's probably why you continue to get those child proof caps then. Good idea to go in and ask about a release. I now have just the rubber snap on lids. So much easier to manage.
I use Rite Aid, I requested the regular caps, and I didn't have to sign anything.

Someone misses seeing the request on their system once in a while, but I almost always get the regular caps.

I suspect the workers at @Marie5656's pharmacy are just too lazy to check that part of the patient profile.

Yes talk to them in pharmacy and not just a tech, go straight to a pharmacist or whomever is over the pharmacy, ask if you need to sign something and stand there until they make it right. I would ask them right there "is this NOW going to be an issue going forward because I am here to correct it because I have requested No child proof caps and I keep getting them thank you and get their name in case it happens again.

I myself would go to store manager if I had requested the caps be changed over and over but that is just me. I hope you get it solved. I know it must be frustrating.
The store manager has nothing to do with the pharmacy. you want to talk with the PIC (pharmacist in charge) They are in charge. You are asking for trouble if you ask the store manager to mess with the PIC. My daughter is a pharmacist and has seen both sides of the issues. Everything that happens in the pharmacy is the PIC's problem.

I had this problem too. Husband couldn't handle the caps. Went to the head of the pharmacy and told them what I wanted and they fixed it for me. Just speak to the top dog and it should help.

I guess stores are different, here at my drug store I had issues once over and over and I did go to store manager as she is over the whole store including pharmacy and it was fixed pronto, but I did go to tech and pharmacist first .Your right though go to pharmacist first.

As far as I know all of ours are still open. There are two within 2 miles of me and another about 5 miles from here. At the one I normally use I've never had a problem talking to the head guy and they seem to know me on sight. Perhaps I make an impression, but they've never called for the men in the little white coats (so far).

THAT IS A GOOD IDEA !

I spent a lot of time yesterday trying to open a Motrin OTC bottle and had that problem with Vicks Vaporizer liquid for the few times I use the vaporizer for my allergies, and for a few other OTC things.

So I tried to get into the hadit of, once I get the cap off, I fold up some saran wrap and attach it to the top pf the open bottle with a rubber band and that seems to work well.

I HATE the type of plastic that a lot of stuff is wrapped in. I have to break down boxes for my recycle day and there is a box on my porch that has been there for months because I could not break it down , even with my box cutter.

Then I realized it could fit into a large Contractor bag, and I can add more garbage into it, and get rid of it that way.

I pulled up to a friend's house one day and her garage door was open and it was full of boxes that had not been broken down, and I realized this is why she never parks in her garage.

I have a medication call Donatol for my stomach. The childproof cap can get stuck because of the liquid medication. I guess they err on the side of always childproof. The one time they don't, something happens and it's a lawsuit.

I use RiteAid, too. And I don't like the child lock lids, either. Most of the drugs are bottled somewhere else(?), but not at the local R.A. pharmacy. It's done by machine. So they come with child resistant lids. I assume you pick up your drugs, at the counter just ask to have the other lids put be on, they will gladly do it for you.

The pharmacy I use now has caps where the small indentation on side has to be pushed in and then the lid is flipped up.

Weird. Both Rite-Aids that I had fill prescriptions dole them out themselves from large bottles. For stuff like Eliquis that comes in small bottles they just give me the manufacturer bottles.

I get my meds through Humana as part of my medicare advantage plan. I let them know that I needed the easy open caps and its never been a problem.
I get my meds with Humana sent to me from their Centerwell online pharmacy. They ask you which kind of lids you want and that is what they have always put on all of my heart medications, too.

We just changed over to Devoted Health Advantage plan, so it will mean a new online pharmacy, and I probably have to specify tht i do not want the locking caps with this one as well. I think that their mail order is through CVS, so they should be able to give me regular lids for the bottles.

Any special reason you changed to Devoted? I got a note from them to change but did not investigate.

We got a letter from Devoted Health since they were just now becoming available here in Alabama where we live, @terry123 . Their program and benefits sounded better than the ones from Humana; so I asked our medicare insurance agent about Devoted.
He knows them from other states where they have been in operation for several years longer, and he said that they have a 5 STAR rating everywhere, and that both the doctors (providers) and the patients really like how well Devoted does at taking care of their patients.

We won’t actually know until January when our coverage starts, but they have special programs for people who are diabetic, high blood pressure, or heart failure (like me), and they are really good at responding to phone calls and online messages when you have questions.
I watched some youtube videos, and i like that the company motto is basically to treat each patient “like they are your mother”, and see that they get the best care possible.

Here is a short video from the founders of Devoted health and it explains how and why they started this company.

I'm surprised to read you still have a Rite Aid in your area. All the ones around ours and surrounding areas have closed. My son just had to switch his RX over to Walgreens because the last one just closed. I don't know what more you can do than what you've been doing. Calling them when you are on your way and asking them to make sure there's not a child proof cap is the next best thing to you checking when you pick the order up, I guess. But I'd double check anyway. It seems there is a lot of clueless-ness going around these days when it comes to customer service!

Thank you so much!!!

I can't blame the pharmacy, but I hate pill splitting.

It was ok when I had just one. I got a splitter, and they're just round compacted powder. I need two of the halves a day, so I split a few every few days.

Now I have another one. These are oval, so it's fiddly getting them aligned with the blade. They also have a "plasticy" coating that makes them both harder and more difficult to split cleanly. I can only get 30 days supply each time, 15 pills. So I take a day to very carefully go through and split all 15 ahead of using a new refill.

But if my fingers struggled with pill bottle caps it would really be a difficult thing to fuss with!

I get my meds at a US chain of stores called Rite Aid. Had to switch when I moved back to Batavia, as there were no Walgreens here. Here is my issue....as many here with arthritic hands, I cannot handle the child proof caps. I find them hard to open. So, I asked Rite Aid to put in my profile to put on the easy oen, non child proof caps. Seems reasonable, right?
BUT...every time they fill my meds, I have to look because invariably they will put the child proof caps on and I have to ask them to change them over.
Seems there should be something popping up on my file to iflag this request. But I have to ask them Every. Darn. Time. I have called the customer service number, spoken to them countless times. What else do I need to do?
I used to like the Walgreen caps,,,as they were dual..being you could flip it over to be child proof (like if kids around) or not

I am really not of a mind to switch pharmacies...as it MAY seem minor..but It is impt to those of us who cannot use the child proof
Talk to the manager, have them show you your profile, you may also be dealing with a pharmacy tech.

This seems like a perfectly reasonable request and I'm sure you're not the only one who needs an easy open medicine container. Yes, they must be clueless. Tell them they are not complying with American Disabilities Act and maybe they will pay closer attention.
