Is This the End of Humankind? Toxic Chemicals Could Shrink Sperm Count to ZERO by 2045

Yes, thank you Irwin. I never thought I would read that much intense info about sperm but, yes, I did it, somewhat scanning over it in the areas that don't relate exactly. Much of it does relate...right on. Thank you.

This answers Sunny's question about where all the other articles are about this. Not much has happened since your article was written but maybe Erin Brockovich will keep hounding away until the UN at least sets up an emergency meeting to discuss what to do about it.

Shrinking penises, plummeting sperm counts: toxic chemicals threaten humanity" is today's article by Erin Brockovich and says there will be no more babies by 2024 according to recent research. Article is dated March 18 2021 in The Guardian just 2 hours ago where Erin Brockovich poses the question "Is this the end of Humankind?"

"The end of humankind may be coming sooner than we think, thanks to hormone-disrupting chemicals that are decimating fertility at an alarming rate around the globe. A new book called Countdown, by Shanna Swan, an environmental and reproductive epidemiologist at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, finds that sperm counts have dropped almost 60% since 1973. Following the trajectory we are on, Swan’s research suggests sperm counts could reach zero by 2045.

Zero. Let that sink in. That would mean no babies. No reproduction. No more humans. Forgive me for asking: why isn’t the UN calling an emergency meeting on this right now?"

"The chemicals to blame for this crisis are found in everything from plastic containers and food wrapping, to waterproof clothes and fragrances in cleaning products, to soaps and shampoos, to electronics and carpeting."

'As if this wasn’t terrifying enough, Swan’s research finds that these chemicals aren’t just dramatically reducing semen quality, they are also shrinking ***** size and volume of the testes. This is nothing short of a full-scale emergency for humanity."

I’m always fascinated how our planet earth keeps flexing its muscles. An over populated planet, which many scientists feel is the major cause for climate change, is in the process of being resolved with or without us.

Not in time. The UN did a global population study/report in the late 1990's which put the optimum/maximum global human population at about 5.9 billion. We are already over 7.3 billion, with expectations of 9 billion by 2050, and 12 billion by 2100. With the declining need for human creativity, due to robotics, automation and Artificial Intelligence, etc., Half of the populations will soon be living at or near poverty. THAT is when All Hell is going to break loose.
Well, not something I need to worry about

I don't know...greed, temptation, and wrong choices, laziness, lack of vision into the future maybe? Or maybe progress in the world is just moving too fast and it's like stopping a speeding train.
Should we blame politicians, who too often, follow their own desires instead of doing what is right?

Well, we can lay blame till the cows come home but that isn't going to get us anywhere. It's a Global problem and the UN really needs to have an emergency meeting with a plan to control toxic production....and so much more. A massive effort to educate and remind every person to do their part is essential. I'm going to make personal changes for using less plastic for one. But we need global cooperation.

I certainly don't believe humankind will end in 2045 but it's not going to be good. I'm not ruling out that it "could" as research suggests.

What will happen is a limited gene-pool, resulting in the problems of in-breeding. I wonder if the effects are random, or if nature is eliminating poor breeding stock. We might end up with a master race.

Certainly there is massive pollution on our planet and the problem is a global one…however, I don’t agree with the alarmist views of Erin Brockovich or Shanna Swan about population.

It wouldn’t do the planet any harm to have a reduced population, but there is no need to panic. To begin with the size of the ***** varies with the different ethnic groups. North Koreans are known to have the smallest ***** and the population of that country is at present 25.67 million!

It takes just one sperm to fertilize a woman's egg. Therefore, if it comes to the worse and humankind is on the brink, then technology will step in with massive IVF programs and sperm banks.

I read or heard years ago that the London Water
supply which goes through rigorous processes to
purify it, still contains drugs, both medical and the
illegal ones, they cannot clear them completely from
the system.

I suspect that this fact applies to many major cities
around the world.

What do you think is the 'new' purpose of your life?

Tagged onto, Lara's, Is this the end of mankind?

To eradicate all the polution out of my body that's built up over my lifetime, then, and only then, perhaps my canon may grow back........ with sperm aplenty. :ROFLMAO:

Or the opposite, Rosemarie. Maybe the "good" breeding stock will be eliminated. Usually the results of inbreeding are not good.

Humans wouldn't be the first species on this planet to die out completely. What's really sad, though, is we might take all or most of the other species with us when we go due to all the pollution we'd leave behind, for instance the nuclear power plant waste, which is on every continent except Antarctica, waste which is deadly--not just dangerous, mind you, but deadly--for at least 10,000 years and which is being stored in facilities which take a lot of personnel to run. Soooo, if no humans left to run such facilities keeping that waste out of the rivers, etc.: bye to all other animals left. Sad, I think.

Those of us who've heard "the end is near"so many times in our life aren't likely to put much stock in this particular rumination.
What you're referring to are predictions of "End Times" coming from religious cults predicting specific dates when the Apocalypse "will" happen (not "could)". The Bible actually says no one will know the day nor the hour but to be ready spiritually for whenever it happens. Aunt Bea's cartoon in post #17 making fun of this actually says the word "religion" in the bottom right corner. It got many likes from members but has nothing to do with this scientific research (nor the Bible).

But scientific research at Mount Sinai regarding the affects of toxicity on human hormones and reproduction over time is different don't you agree? This would be man's demise due to his own natural consequences.

Plus, the end of humankind is not the end of the world. Plants and animals could still survive. They don't use any of the toxic products listed. The earth would begin to heal with us gone and Our creator could then create man and woman anew once again. I'm guessing our Creator is not at all happy with how the world is turning their backs on Him anyway.

Lastly, Erin Brockovich and Shanna Swann said the end of humankind COULD happen...not WILL happen. There's a big difference there. But we need to act now.

The crisis is really not about the reduction of the size of the ***** over time. Women will also be less fertile as time goes on and sperm counts are plummeting because this is about toxic affects on human hormones and reproduction over time. Sperm counts have dropped almost 60% since 1973. That's alarming. Following the trajectory we are on, Swan’s research suggests sperm counts could reach zero by 2045. You're saying "no need to panic". Research suggests differently

I'm skeptical of dire predictions that human reproduction will cease in just a little over 20 years. If there was enough credible scientific evidence and proof that such a horrendous event was coming, we would be having a worldwide programs to store sperm, and eggs. You think maybe the World Health Organization might mention it since mankind won't exist in about 120+years. While I am concerned about the role chemicals play in our lives, and I don't feel we fully understand the consequences of all those interactions, the end of humanity in 2045 seems to be a well kept secret. And if this end of man is just a "possibility" then, the "crisis" is also a possibility.

well if we have overpopulation now then it sounds like nature is taking care of the problem itself. i'm sure stress isn't helping this situation either. people in the work force are under horrible amounts of stress all day every day. then they gotta go deal with life. it's just too much anymore.

*laughing & thinking of gherkins*

As regards stress in the workplace, a lot of the problems we have are caused by the fact that we live completely unnatural lives. Perhaps if humans went back to living in small groups, in harmony with nature, life on Earth would return to being as it was intended to be.

The "End of Time, or End Days" is I believe a statement from
early religion and might not apply with the same intention as
in those days, to keep the population good and crime free.

Though these statements a reached every day, not "en masse",
but individually, when somebody dies.

The low sperm count is being addressed today, or at least studied
in laboratories Worldwide, where embryos are being started with
no sperm or egg involved.

Aneeda, we don't need to worry, we just need to be ready and act now for the sake of future generations. We need to do more than is being done now.

Mike, embryos are being started without a sperm or or egg involved??😲 Yikes, that's a whole other thread.

I really wanted to keep this thread to be on a scientific level so I'm sorry to get Biblical but it just happened when someone posted a cartoon about religious End Times. I'm not sure if the phrase "end times" is in the Bible but "last days" is in Timothy 3:1-15...same thing. Every generation thinks their generation has all the signs to be considered as last days. God wants it that way so everyone will be ready because he says it can happen in a twinkling of an eye. But the Bible is clear that "no one will know the day nor the hour".

I take your point Lara...however.. consider this : Researchers at Hebrew University and Mount Sinai medical school made a systematic review and meta-analysis by bringing together data from 185 studies on sperm samples.

Studies involving 43,000 men from around the world, including North America, Europe, Oceania, South America, Asia, and Africa, focused on sperm count Specifically, they included only studies that collected the semen via masturbation, and used a “hemocytometer,” a counting-chamber device, to measure sperm counts.

These scientists found average sperm count has dropped, but still in the normal range.

I read that the "m" word...sorry, I just can't bring myself to say it lol, will definitely bring a different result in research.
