Isn't it about time the US joined the world's metric system?

This is not the metric system, but for a long time I wondered what a "quid" is. It's mentioned a lot on British shows. Finally, I googled it, and I gather it's the same thing as a pound. (But then you've got to do the math to figure out what that is in dollars.

I guess the quid thing is similar to the use of the word "buck" for an American dollar.

I was in 5th or 6th grade when our teacher told us the US would be switching to the metric system soon.
I am still waiting, but not hoping.
