Israel Has Declared War after Unprecedented Hamas Attack

Hamas has labelled the US announcement that they will send Military Ships and aircraft closer to Israel as “aggression” against Palestinians.

“The announcement of the US that it will provide an aircraft carrier to support the occupation [Israel] is actual participation in the aggression against our people,” the group said in a statement.

Israel battered Palestinians with air strikes in the besieged Gaza Strip on Sunday, with hundreds reportedly killed on both sides.

Austin said the US believes Hamas’s latest attack could also be aimed at disrupting a potential normalising of ties between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

US military - Israel

Austin said the security assistance to Israel will begin moving on Sunday and that the US will be adding fighter jets to the region as well.

The US has also ordered the moving of a carrier strike group closer to Israel, which includes the Ford carrier and ships that support it.

“I have directed the movement of the USS Gerald R Ford Carrier Strike Group to the Eastern Mediterranean,” Austin said in a statement.
US to hike military aid, send military ships and aircraft closer to Israel

I just hope people keep in mind that this is action against a group of terrorists, and not the Palestinian people.
Fair point BUT, Hamas has and is sheltering within the communities IN Palestine, knowing full well that the response by the IDF will result in civilian deaths. In fact , Hamas and Hezbollah are counting on that happening. It is a part of their overall plan. JImB.

Wow....N.J. senator Corey Bo9ker was there to give a speech and recounts the horror (video included]. Rep. Dan Goldman and his family were there for a bar mitzvah. Thank God they are all safe!
Cory Booker Recounts Harrowing Moment As Hamas Attack On Israel Began (HuffPost)

@Jackie23 I pray your grandson & fellow shipmates will remain safe.
Realistically, USN ships and their crews are VERY unlikely to be harmed by terrorist groups, who have no aircraft, nor do they have any armed vessels, or accurate attack rockets. The USN is going to steam in circles out at sea. This is a show of support for Israel nothing more. The Hamas attack rockets are "area attack weapons " that are not pin point accurate. They are not highly technical weapons systems that would be capable of hitting a moving USN ship at sea, and of course EVERY USN ship has anti missile defense systems on board. JImB.

Israel was most recently established in 1948. And that's all some people see or try to understand ... or argue against and make excuses for assaults on Israel.

But the Jews have been in Israel since well over a millennium before Christ was born. They have been exiled and returned a number of times. Try as people might, it's their ancestral lands and they aren't going away. 1948 was just one more changing of hands. The Romans, Muslims, nor the crusaders could maintain control of it. To pick some arbitrary date in which it changed hands and say that's the problem is short sighted.

Generally speaking, the terms Hebrews, Jews, and Israelites all refer to the same people - the nation which sprang from Abraham through Isaac and Jacob, a nation promised and chosen by God in the Old Testament. Each term emphasizes some aspect of this people's origin or background.

"IfNotNow, a progressive American Jewish group that opposes Israeli apartheid, said that while “we watch the unfolding horrors with heartbreak and dread for our loved ones ― Israelis and Palestinians alike” ― the attack by Palestinian freedom fighters was a result of decades of oppression.

We cannot and will not say today’s actions by Palestinian militants are unprovoked,” the group said in a statement on Saturday. “Every day under Israel’s system of apartheid is a provocation. The strangling siege on Gaza is a provocation. Settlers terrorizing entire Palestinian villages, soldiers raiding and demolishing Palestinian homes, murdering Palestinians in the streets, Israeli ministers calling for genocide and expulsion.”
This is the narrative I tend to agree with. At one time I thought Israel was the good guy, because I was only familiar with way back when the Arabs were going drive Israel into sea, but were beaten back by superior force, but Israel is oppressive and expansionist. This latest attack was only a surprise because no one saw it coming. But there has never been peace in Israel or Palestine, only periods of lightened activity, while hatred simmered like a pressure cooker with a tight lid. Eventually the pressure cooker's lid can no longer hold.

Just so I'm clear on your position, you support and are okay with Hamas going into a music concert and murdering over 200 civilians. Correct?
And then you replied:
I never said that, and never would. Clear your head, and read that again.

Sorry, but yes you did. So show me in your post where you did NOT support these war crimes. You clearly support HAMAS in their efforts. "This is the narrative I tend to agree with" are you exact words, referring to the post of above citing "the attack by Palestinian freedom fighters".

The blood of the murdered Israelis is on the hands of everyone who takes the side of HAMAS

Ever hear of the USS Cole or the USS Stark

I'm all for women in combat, women police, women field reporters -- but seeing live reports on this from women newscasters right now -- scares me to death. Hamas's treatment of women during this has been unspeakable.

After decades of tit for tat atrocities, each side believes that only with the annihilation of the other will security ever be achieved. And neither side is coming to the table without blood on their hands. Neither side is averse to launching missiles into the homes of the other. And neither side is hankering for peace in this century or the next, or the next.. And frankly, I don't see much difference with Israel's slowly growing borders, than the invasion of Poland. It amounts to the same thing. And, of course, religious extremists have nothing to do with the fanning of flames.

It's so hard to follow this conflict. My entire life I have heard of Israelis and Palestinians fighting. It is so very sad. There seems to be no solution as neither side will compromise enough. I do not know enough about the conflicts to say but it seems it takes both sides to really desire peace for peace to be..

A 'shattered' granddaughter has told how her Israeli grandmother was murdered by a Hamas terrorist who broke into her home and slaughtered her before using her phone to take pictures and posting them on her Facebook account.

Mor Bayder said she only found out about the tragedy when going on Facebook to see the horrific post at 7am yesterday - calling the video the 'nightmare of my life'.

In her own Facebook post, Ms Bayder paid a moving tribute to her grandmother and detailed the terrifying manner in which she was killed.

'The pillar of my life, in my family's life. My grandmother, a resident of Kibbutz Nir Oz all her life, was [killed] yesterday in a brutal murder by a terrorist in her home,' she wrote.

'Seven in the morning, I saw the nightmare of my life. A terrorist came home to her, killed her, took her phone, filmed the horror and published it on her Facebook wall. This is how we found out.
The purest thing in the world, the light of my life, my whole world, my grandmother, can't make it real.'

The murder is just one of hundreds of deaths which have occurred this week after Hamas terrorists launched a surprise assault that has so far killed more than 700 Israelis.

A young Israeli couple who were murdered by Hamas terrorists in their home in Israel managed to save their 10-month-old twin babies from the same tragic fate by hiding them in a hidden shelter, it has been revealed.

Itay and Hadar Berdichevsky, both 30, only had mere seconds to react when they heard the gunmen trying to smash down their front door, knowing that if they didn't, their children would never have a future.

The terrified parents frantically bundled their two babies into a hidden shelter moments before the Hamas terrorists stormed into their home, the Israeli ambassador to Colombia Gali Dagan revealed.

Itay and Hadar 'bravely fought' the gunmen before they were shot and killed during their assault on Israel, which has left more than 700 Israelis dead.

Astonishingly, their two babies were found and rescued by Israeli soldiers after being left alone for more than 12 hours, Dagan said, hailing the couple as 'heroes' who did 'everything they could to save their children'.

The babies were left alone for more than 12 hours until they were rescued. Imagine the horror. Two terrified parents doing everything they can to save their children, who are now orphaned. Blessed be the memory of these heroes.'

Itay and Hadar are now among the more than 700 Israelis who have been killed by Hamas terrorists, after the gunmen launched a surprise assault on Israel at the weekend.

The attacks came by land and air with Hamas gunmen flying into Israel using paragliders while other units cut wires in border fences and bulldozed walls to enter the country.

Harrowing videos captured by Hamas insurgents using helmet-mounted GoPro cameras and smartphones showed how unsuspecting Israeli soldiers were gunned down in their barracks while others were beaten, tied up and frogmarched away or bundled into cars and pickup trucks.

I don't think most people realize that there has never been an independent Palestinian state until the PLO was formed in 1964.

Palestine was a region, and Palestinians were the nomadic peoples in that region. That area has been ruled over the centuries by just about everyone BUT the Palestinians, and no one cared. UNTIL a Jewish state was created ... then it was Jihad to reclaim their rightful land.

Muslim neighbors were outraged and began inviting the Palestinians to their countries as brothers and sisters in the great Islamic cause. They were promised a lot.

What they got was stuck in camps on the border of those Muslim countries, where they were held and fed daily doses of 'how Israel was really responsible for this and we are trying to help you'. As you can imagine it doesn't take long for simple, nomadic people crammed into camps to get pretty upset. Once sufficiently agitated they were pointed at Israel, armed, and unleashed. The PLO emerged from this conditioning and they are literally doing the dirty work of Israel’s foes who simply use the Palestinians as pawns.

Ismail Haniyeh, the leader behind Hamas' deadliest ever attack on Israelis, watched it unfold on television with delight from the safety of Qatar. Hamas leadership lives in luxury in Qatar. They stockpile weapons instead of improving the lives of those they claim to represent.

I’m not Israeli, I’m not Jewish, but to me, this is perhaps worse than 9/11. If they can, they’ll come flooding into communities and homes, kill the men and take women and children as they have shown over and over again. The only way to deal with terrorists and those who harbor them is to deal with them harshly.

Oh, for sure, but the US military almost always gets poked with the dirty end of a stick when they get involved in another county's chit. Always either too much, too little, too late, or none of its business in the first place.

This attack just manufactured future hardline leaders and people that will hold a vendetta over the enemy the rest of their lives. Meaning it will take several more generation before peace may become a reality.

Some always felt the big and last one would start here

Here's a little news item for you - a joint statement by 31 student groups at Harvard:

Joint Statement by Harvard Palestine Solidarity Groups on the Situation in Palestine

We, the undersigned student organizations, hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence.

Today’s events did not occur in a vacuum. For the last two decades, millions of Palestinians in Gaza have been forced to live in an open-air prison. Israeli officials promise to “open the gates of hell,” and the massacres in Gaza have already commenced. Palestinians in Gaza have no shelters for refuge and nowhere to escape. In the coming days, Palestinians will be forced to bear the full brunt of Israel’s violence.

The apartheid regime is the only one to blame. Israeli violence has structured every aspect of Palestinian existence for 75 years. From systematized land seizures to routine airstrikes, arbitrary detentions to military checkpoints, and enforced family separations to targeted killings, Palestinians have been forced to live in a state of death, both slow and sudden.

Today, the Palestinian ordeal enters into uncharted territory. The coming days will require a firm stand against colonial retaliation. We call on the Harvard community to take action to stop the ongoing annihilation of Palestinians.

Hamas. armed wing said on Monday it will begin executing an Israeli civilian captive in return for any new Israeli bombing of civilian houses without pre-warning.

Abu Obaida, spokesperson for Hamas' armed wing, the IQB, said they have been acting in accordance with Islamic instructions by keeping Israeli captives safe.

He blamed the intended move on Israel's stepped-up bombing and killing of civilians inside their homes in air strikes without warning them.

'We have decided to put an end to this and as of now, we declare that any targeting of our people in their homes without prior warning will be regrettably faced with the execution of one the hostages of civilians we are holding,' he said.

Gaza City has been devastated by airstrikes today in response to the surprise attack launched by Hamas on Saturday.

In a video statement Monday, Israel's foreign minister warned Hamas against harming any of the hostages who were taken from Israel and being held in Gaza.

Eli Cohen said Israel was committed to bringing the hostages home 'in the spirit of mutual responsibility.'

Israel to strike Hamas in Gaza even at cost of harming Israeli hostages – senior source

Israel has decided that its attacks on terrorist targets in Gaza will be carried out with great force and breadth, even at the cost of harming Israelis who are being held captive in Gaza, a senior government source tells reporters.

The source clarifies that if Israel has precise intelligence information on the location of Israeli captives, it will of course refrain from attacking in that specific location. But so long as no such information exists, all Hamas targets will be attacked.

IDF spokesman: Gaza terrorists no longer breaching border, we have info on all hostages

IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says Israel is completing clearing southern Israel of terrorists and has information on all Israelis taken hostage in Gaza.

“As of now, we have notified 30 families. When we complete notifying the families, the number of hostages in Gaza will be made available to the public,” he says.

Some 60 fighter jets are carrying out waves of airstrikes against Hamas targets at this hour.
