Seems to be a big row going on about whether the BBC should call Hammas terrorists.
I agree with John Simpson, it's best to remain impartial and just tell us the factual news.
It is a terrible situation, innocent people caught up on all sides. I fear the worst and cannot see any good outcome.

Israeli military says babies WERE beheaded, and a coroner has confirmed how they died as IDF post images of 'ISIS flags left at kibbutz by Hamas terrorists'

Here is the link...I cannot post this...it's too upsetting to show on the forum... be warned before you click on the link there's graphic detail of babies with soldiers who are sobbing at the sight of their little bodies
This is the most evil act I've ever seen... Israeli military says babies WERE beheaded by Hamas
I cannot bear to look. But thankyou for telling us.

I agree.. all media news should remain impartial...

No power, water or Fuel to Gaza....says the Israel , until the hostages are freed...

Israel has said there will be no humanitarian break to its siege of the Gaza Strip until all its hostages are freed, amid growing concern over dwindling water, food and fuel supplies after a fifth night of bombardment.

The energy minister, Israel Katz, wrote on social media that no “electrical switch will be turned on, no water hydrant will be opened and no fuel truck will enter” until the “abductees” are free.

Israel is preparing to launch a ground invasion in response to bloody massacres carried out in 20 Israeli communities by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas last weekend, during which dozens of hostages were also seized.

Israel Defence Forces strikes killed 33 people within two hours overnight on Thursday, according to Al Jazeera’s local reporter, bringing the death toll in Gaza to 1,200. The reporter said fighter jets attacked houses in several areas, and civil defence groups recovered the bodies of the dead.
According to the report, since the fighting began, six neighbourhoods in the strip have been destroyed. Eighteen healthcare facilities and 20 ambulances have been affected and 11 healthcare workers killed, the World Health Organization said, in the most intense bombing campaign the strip has suffered in the 16 years since Hamas seized control of the tiny, overcrowded area, home to 2.3 million people. The UN said late on Wednesday the number of people displaced by the airstrikes had soared 30% within 24 hours to 339,000 – two-thirds of them crowding into UN schools.

@Warrigal Given the time frame I'm sure that the local Aboriginal population got no consideration whatsoever. Conjecture as you will how that might have ended, double displacement.
Totally agree. As late as WWI White Australians expected the indigenous people to die out. My mother believed that they would gradually become white. In part the stolen generation was about the latter, in that children with paler skins, particularly girls, were taken most often and trained to become domestic servants. It was a policy of cultural genocide.

Have you voted in the referendum yet. Hubby and I have, and I am hoping against hope that the proposal will get the necessary numbers.

That is the whole point of terrorism, but it is a double edged sword. The Israelis will retaliate, and the death toll among the Palestinian civilians will be horrific because of Hamas atrocities..

Well......

I would prefer that the BBC and all other news organizations tell the whole truth. Sometimes impartiality can be offensive in what it leaves out.

As a matter of fact US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in Israel and has met with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. Blinken confirms that 25 American citizens were killed in the attacks by Hamas.

Edited to add "so far" 25 American citizens are known to have been killed. I'm not sure if we know the citizenship of those held as hostages by Hamas.

If you behead a child you are indeed a terrorist. If I am being impartial, I would say you are a human currently engaged in acts of terror.
Yes, I agree they are terrorists. These acts are appalling.
However, surely there is danger if the BBC begin calling certain groups terrorists. It means they would have to judge, take sides, in all sorts of situations, perhaps in other wars. Will not true impartiality be gone?

I just want the facts from the news - what, when, where, why etc. The rest is very complicated.

Okay. Only call terrorists people who behead babies. Make the acts terrorist. "Today, in Israel, Hamas committed acts of terrorism. One may judge whether that makes them actual terrorists."

Not sure what the hesitancy is to call a duck a duck.... from NPR:
The U.S. State Department has designated Hamas a terrorist group in 1997. The European Union and other Western countries also consider it a terrorist organization.

Yes,that sounds more along the lines of what I think. Terrorist acts , we all can see and know are against humanity, appalling. The journalists job is to report on facts. Bring us the truth.

Why is the group .. 'Black Lives Matter' backing the terriorts? .... Unbelievable!

Rose, the BBC will probably not change their stance. Rather that letting it be upsetting it might be easier to find a news source that meets your standards.

And if the truth is that most of the world has declared a certain group to be a bona fide terror organization, don't report the truth about what they are, just sweep it under the carpet and sugar-coat it... is that what you're thinking/prefer? SMH

No. They are terrorists, what they did is unforgivable.
But we must have impartial news. Perhaps the rules for the BBC will change, for the moment they are following existing founding rules, to stay neutral.

Just out of curiosity, are all other media/news companies, apart from the BBC, calling Hamas a terrorist group? What are Sky News calling them?

(I only ask the question. I most certainly do think they are terrorists and their actions are appalling. I am only looking at impartiality as a basis of news reporting.).

My understanding of the BLM article is that it is from the leader of the BLM Chicago branch of BLM and that the BLM group as a whole infactly condemn the article that has since been taken down.

Could you please post a link to the condemnation. I would like to see the wording.

I doubt it but I certainly don't know. Maybe people will say what their sources are calling Hamas. It would be interesting to know.

These suggestions of the world moving a modern day successful democracy out of its country are rather offensive. How would anyone propose to accomplish that?
So, how are things working out for Israel where they are currently located? There will never, ever be peace in the Middle East, and moving Israel is a logical solution.
