Israel Strikes Iran's Nuclear Facilities

It will probably take a few days to hear exactly what was or wasn't taken out after confirmations. At this time, there have been two air strikes that targeted their enrichment facilities.

The one thing that has been confirmed is that revolutionary guard chief Hossein Salami was killed in the first strike. One of news channels said that this guy had threatened to attack U.S. bases in the area if Israel would have done anything.

I just wonder if they managed to get all non-essential personnel & families from bases/embassies out after the order was put out 24-hours ago.

Apparently the U.N. passed a resolution on Iran on Thursday because they said they were in violation of their nuclear non-proliferation obligations.

It is estimated that Israel has somewhere between 90 and 400 nuclear warheads. And they feel justified in bombing Iran because they might be close to getting one. The hypocrisy of that is beyond stunning to me.

I don't recall hearing at any time that Israel - as a nation - promised to wipe Iran off the map. Unlike what Iran has promised and worked toward in direct and proxied attacks against Israel.

My last statement on this subject because it will surely morph into a political discussion.

No hypocrisy. It is all about intent. Iran intends to use nuclear weapons to rule the world and make everyone conform to their laws. Israel has them for protection. Just like criminals have guns to commit crimes and honest citizens have them for protection. It is all about intent.

Israel is just tired of attacks period and Iran has supplied many of their attackers.

The nukes are a long standing issue but Iran has been supplying other terrorists and Russia among others with drones, missiles, anti tank weapons etc. They're one of the world's largest arms exporters at this point.

Make no mistake I'm no fan of either one. They are both war mongers. As far as I am concerned they can do the rest of the world a favor by wiping each other out.

There's a scene in this early 70's movie "Pete and Tillie" (Walter Mathau and Carol Burnette) that has stuck in my mind ever since because it is such a profound analogy for so many situations in life. In the scene Pete (Walter Mathau) is watching a football game and Tillie played by Carol Burnette asked him "whose playing?" Pete replies "Mississippi, Mississippi State". And Tillie replies "Why do you care about that"? And Pete replies "I don't, I'm just hoping for injuries". Well that's how I feel about Israel vs. Iran.

The papers are full of the pictures today.....

the Iran leaders who were killed were...

Gen. Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Revolutionary Guards Corps, Iran’s main military force, was a key figure in the political sphere. It’s understood he reported directly to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Mohammad Bagheri served as the Chief of Staff to Iran’s armed forces, He was the second-highest commander after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

General Gholamali Rashid alongside his son. He was deputy commander in chief of the armed forces, and commander of Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters, a branch of the IRGC.

Key scientists working on Iran’s nuclear programme have also been reported as killed in Israel’s strikes on Iran overnight. Tasnim News Agency reports at least six have died.

Among the scientists thought to have died are Fereydoon Abbasi, Mohammad Mahdi Tehranchi, and Seyed Amir Hossein Feqhi.

Abbasi was the former head of Iran’s atomic energy, and also served as an MP (Member of Parliament.)

Tehranchi was a theoretical physicist and a key expert involved in the AMAD plan, Iran’s significant programme to advance nuclear capabilities launched in the early 2000s. Tehranchi was also the President of Islamic Azad University in Tehran.

Feqhi was deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, as well as on the faculty for Nuclear Engineering at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran.

Throughout history, Jewish people have faced a wide range of persecution, including religious discrimination, political restrictions, economic hardships, and violent attacks, often fueled by antisemitic beliefs. These acts of persecution have varied in severity and form, ranging from segregation and expulsion to mass violence and genocide, with examples found across different periods and regions.
That's all I need to know!

I had un uneasy feeling when the Iran backed terrorist brutally tortured and killed over a 1000 Jews in Israel. It was barbaric and reached the depts of evil that even surpassed the horrors of the Holocaust. The numbers of Jews killed was smaller, but the horrors of the killing methods surpassed the methods used by the Nazi.

I get a feeling of calm now that Israel has finally gone after the root of the evil instead of merely pruning offending branches. Kill the root and the rest will eventually fade away.

Armageddon beginning is something that has been preached since the mid 1960s. I certainly won't get fearful and start building a bomb shelter or do anything to prepare other than what I have done my entire life.

I believe the other countries in that region, even though they may not openly say it, have to be breathing a sigh of relief that the nuclear weapon capability is being taken away from Iran.

Any country, or person for that matter, who continues to threaten lives of others over many years need to be taken seriously. You may not be on the receiving end of those threats initially, but you could be sooner or later.

Eventually, they will act on what they say they will do. To take those actions using nuclear weapons, or the threat of using nuclear weapons, is not acceptable.

I have nothing against the ordinary citizens of Iran. But the government of that country has been threatening to wipe Israel off the map, pretty much since the state was established. They actively hate Israel and have been planning its destruction.

As much as I am no fan of Netanyahu, I don't think Israel has ever planned to wipe any country off the map, let alone a country that is right next door. They are just trying to survive.

Imagine a neighboring country to the US, which of course would be Canada or Mexico, building up a nuclear arsenal and continually threatening us with it. What would we do?

I agree with the above post from Michael. It is always the people living in a war-mongering country who are mainly the innocent victims.

The Israeli military has warned citizens to take cover in bomb shelters after 'dozens of Iranian ballistic missiles' are en route to Israel.

Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei has reportedly said Israel started the strikes and initiated a war, with Iranian media confirming the launch of hundreds of missiles.

Earlier today, Tehran vowed 'painful revenge' for Israel's unprecedented offensive overnight that has left the region teetering on the brink of all-out war.
Israel used fighter jets and a secret drone base near Tehran to batter nuclear facilities, missile launch sites and decapitate military command - in a move that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dubbed Operation Rising Lion.

An Israeli military spokesman has said their 'defence systems are working to intercept the threat'.

Smoke has been seen across the Tel Aviv skyline as Israel's Iron Dome has begun intercepting the missiles.

Several blasts have also been heard over Jerusalem and air raid sirens are sounding in the city as well as Tel Aviv.

Israel's offensive last night was the culmination of years of research and planning by Israel's military and Mossad intelligence agency to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Iran does have a very strategic air force with bombers and fighters. Problem is their planes are aging. The IRIAF operates a variety of aircraft that they received from other countries, including F-14 Tomcats, F-5s, F-4s, MiG-29s, Sukhoi-24s, and Chinese-made F-7s. Iran’s bombers have precision guidance munitions.
