It's a big decision to get a wheelchair

I am going to check out the rollator. I don't have anyone to push me around. I once used a borrowed wheel chair for a week or two before spinal surgery. My late son's girlfriend was living here at the time and she was great about pushing me to appointments.

I think it's time. My knees are deteriorating and I have realised life has become very small because I don't want to go anywhere that means walking. My husband is patient but it's not fair. We used to go for days out, museums, art galleries etc.
So I think a nice portable wheelchair would open life up for us again. Just for bigger outings. I have to admit I am not as I once was.
Do people here have one and was it a hard decision?
I do not, but I had two for my husband when the wheely walker was no longer useful. Both would fold up and fit in the boot of the car but they were different sizes. He was a heavy man so the one he used every day in the nursing home was heavy duty. The other one was lighter and easier for me to lift. That was the one I would use to take him on outings.

You would need a good cushion for comfort's sake and the footrests need to be well aligned. The brakes can be a problem too if not gripping properly.

My advice would be to look around and discuss the issue with people who know what they are talking about. There should be some sort of specialty outlet you could visit for advice.

We bought DH an electric wheelchair. It is light weight...43 lbs, folds up and is stashed in the car by our son. We arrive DS gets it out and DH can take it anywhere, but mostly out for dinner. It was $2999.+tax. Probably cheaper in the US. But it fills the needs for DH.

How about one of those scooter things? My walker has a seat on it, so I can sit as needed. The only down side to the scooter (like supermarkets have) is you cannot fit it into a car. But they have a long range

We have a transport chair for my MIL (103) we use for Dr visits, she uses a walker around the house..
Under $100 on Amazon.

A friend & neighbor was considering one. He went to his doc [@ the VA]. They provided him with a powered scooter , complete with a ramp & platform, that is mounted on the back of his small SUV. He told me that he is really appreciative of it , the VA providing it but ...... He stated that if he drives it up the ramp, he cannot step down back to ground, and walking down the ramp is almost as bad. As such, he fears using it at all [to go anywhere] so he just uses the scooter to get out of the house , ride around the neighborhood.

I bought my wife an XL transfer chair. 8" swivel wheels and a basket for stuff. Transported her all over the fair with it.
She was going thru 2 back surgeries and recoveries. It mostly sits in the L.R. now, just furniture, but occasionally she
still sits in it at the kitchen peeling potatoes that sort of thing. I found it like new at a 2nd hand store for $30. I was
looking into a Trailer hitch lift and power chair when I found it. It doesn't have its footrest on it so she can scoot with
her feet wherever she wishes. She loves it.

I do hope her back is now free of pain. Back surgery must be very hard to get through.
