Today’s deadly mass shooting in San Bernardino isn’t even the only one that happened today: Early this morning, one person was killed and several more were injured in a mass shooting in Savannah, Georgia. Earlier today, someone was shot and killed outside of a health clinic in Houston, Texas. And just 10 miles from the San Bernardino health clinic in which dozens were shot, there were reports of shots fired near a Target store.
 

Well everybody's got a gun now,you know their rights, to shoot at anything, anybody. If it moves shoot it and ask questions later.
SAD but that's the way it is today.

Wringing of the hands, repeated calls to Elected Leaders, quavering in fear, bullet-proofing the home, all will do as much good as wailing at the moon.

Why? On Black Friday just past, ONE DAY, FBI stats indicate that, nation-wide, 185,345 background checks were run on folks buying firearms. One day. About two per second!

During the week following the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, FBI processed 953,613 background checks.

Presumably, not all applicants were successfully cleared. It is absolutely incredible how many firearms are being acquired day-in and day-out as time goes by. imp

Exactly, record Black Friday for gun background checks. On a Black Friday shortly after a mass attack in Paris with yet more rhetoric of 'gun control' domestically. The people or gun buyers are not the sheeple the anti gun crowd leads one to believe. They don't need the NRA to scare them or tell them events with the standard accompanying anti gun rhetoric & commentary could lessen their chances of gun ownership.
 
Having gone through the gun checks means these folks are most likely to want to own honestly and are not likely to be planning on having a gun assault on anyone or anyplace either.

Today's activities are not likely of registered gun owners. Could be registered gun owners but not likely. And it sounds like mostly long guns and not self defensive pistols.

Gun checks? At the rate of 2 per second on Black Friday, how deep do they dig looking for indicators that the person might not be a responsible person to have possession of a firearm?
 
I so wish my daughter would not be living in USA for 6 months after Christmas. I thought her 6months in South America was cause for concern but I'm now thinking that was a walk in the park. How many totally innocent people have to be slaughtered before changes are made?

Indeed. Do they dig at all? How significant is the premise here that only a damned fool would attempt to purchase a firearm, given he/she was a known felon? Yet, I've heard they do. Maybe more OFFICIAL propaganda, for all I know.

An ages old dictum stated "Give them all a gun, and soon enough, no more criminals will exist". imp

For all the toing and froing between pro and anti lobbies......if Sandy Hook didn't change America's mind NOTHING will.

I feel sorry for the Americans who can see the situation for what is and still have to live with these tragedies.

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF. — At least two gun-wielding ­assailants opened fire on a holiday party for county employees Wednesday, killing 14 people in the deadliest mass shooting in the United States since the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre three years ago this month.

Hours after the shooting, law enforcement officials said two attackers — Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27— had been killed in a police shootout several miles from the site of the original attack.

Farook is a U.S. citizen, San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said at a press conference early Thursday. He worked as a health inspector for the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, which was hosting Wednesday’s holiday party.

Farook was at the gathering Wednesday, Burguan said, but he left early “under circumstances described as angry or something of that nature.”

Shortly after, Farook apparently returned with Malik, who officials believe is either his wife or fiancee. Then they allegedly opened fire.

A third suspect who had been seen fleeing the shootout was taken into custody, though it was not clear whether he had been one of the shooters.
Asked about the third suspect at a late night press conference, Burguan replied, “Right now, as we continue to drill down our information, it looks like we have two shooters. We are comfortable that the two shooters that went into the building are the two shooters that are deceased.”

Burguan declined to comment on a possible motive or what precipitated the mass shooting. “We have not ruled out terrorism,” Burguan said.

A senior U.S. law enforcement official said that Farook was not previously under FBI investigation.

Who gives a rats ass Imp? All guns kill... but an assault rifle kills MORE and faster.... A long gun would be what a sane person would purchase to hunt.. See the difference?

Hey... that's how we roll here in the "states".... someone pisses you off at a party? Go home... get your wife... put on your gear and strap on your assault weapon.. Slaughter some folks before Christmas... "Happy Holidays!!!"

This is just semantics. The length of the barrel determines the class of the weapon. In this case, assault rifles are long guns, but then again so is an 8" canon on a warship.

The point is that in USA it's far too easy for angry or mentally ill or substance affected or racially or religiously bigoted people to get their hands on a gun or rifle or anything else you want to call it. This easy access results in many deaths as illustrated by today's events. I'm sure the families of the victims don't care what type of firearm killed their loved ones.

As far as I know our total gun deaths numbers have been going down for the recent years. Also think that even with these numbers added we will still be showing a going down in total gun deaths once again.

It was not said that these guns were registered or otherwise. Why are some folks so nasty as this person was and how did his wife, sweetheart, lover, also get into this killing mood.
 
That's immaterial. Whatever turned them "nasty" the point is it was easy for them to access firearms. Easy access firearms for pissed off people results in multiple deaths. I have felt "nasty" towards people and the worst I can do to them is an angry email or tweet or Facebook post.

Really Ralphy?? Sometimes it takes an outsider without any personal impact of a particular situation to see things as they are. I can go to Church, the movies, shopping malls, restaurants etc and not worry about random loonies opening fire on me. I could even send my kids to school and not have to worry if some disgruntled juvenile would mow them down at recess. Yeah, I'VE got the blinders on.

Fortunately, there are still a good many of us that would like to see guns strictly regulated, and will keep fighting for and voting for people who are willing to do something. People should be able to hunt... and to protect their home... that's it. Assault weapons should be BANNED... and large volume clips banned also. there is no freaking reason in the world someone would need to fire 50 or 100 rounds in seconds.. other than to kill a whole bunch of innocent people REALLY fast.
 
Ralphy, I suspect the blinders may belong to you, not Mitchezz. What may seem normal two some desensitised Americans, fill many of us non Americans with horror. Of course, the probability exists, that you are just baiting us for sport!
