Now I live in Tennesee. Did live in Michigan.
In North Carolina, Washington, and cities worldwide, George Floyd's death is the issue.

Tens of thousands of protesters streamed into the nation’s capital and other major cities Saturday in another huge mobilization against police brutality while George Floyd was remembered in his North Carolina hometown by mourners who waited hours for a glimpse of his golden coffin, the AP reports. Military vehicles and officers in fatigues closed off much of downtown Washington to traffic ahead of the planned march, which authorities estimated would attract up to 200,000 people.

Yesterday we had peaceful protests in the center city.

At the end of the day, the crowds dispersed quietly and were thanked by city officials.

Some small demands are beginning to bubble up but a single voice has yet to emerge.

Some of the demands have been attempted in the past and have been challenged legally or were simply not practical.

I'm concerned that little or nothing of value will come of this if the various groups involved in the protests don't sit down to seriously discuss and document the possibilities for change in our community.

All this rioting looting and protesting is just sporadic, my azz. Totally organized. Now dig deep and follow the money. Get some of that money back for there organized involvement.

Same here, about 400 people and it was peaceful and respectful. The city PD talk group on the scanner was almost silent. The only issues I heard were on the EMS talk group dealing with older folks and the heat.

We have a good community.
 
I'm surprised at the number of protests throughout the world. Not only are the protests for Floyd, but for the racial conditions in their own nations. And frankly, how do you spin kneeling on a hand cuffed suspect,'s throat for over 8 minutes, until he dies; all the while listening him plead for his life.
 
I'm of the opinion that these protests and riots are more a result of the CV-19 epidemic than anything. This George Floyd incident is merely the "spark" that lit the "fuse". After weeks and months of total disruption of normal society, and massive unemployment, etc., caused by this virus, Large numbers of people are going borderline Nuts.

There may be some good that comes from these protests....tighter controls over how the police behave, etc., but in the long run, I see little else coming from these protests. There is a Really Good chance that all these protests will only serve to harden many peoples already Fixed Attitudes.
 
The local chapter of BLM has submitted a tentative list of demands for our city officials to consider.

  • To remove police from local schools
  • Strengthen the Citizen Review Board and give it disciplinary powers
  • Divest from police and invest in our communities
  • Fire an officer who, Black Lives Matter Syracuse, says, has terrorized residents in the community.
Some of the items surprised me and I'm curious to find out more about them.

There is also a petition being circulated to remove a statue of Christopher Columbus. This is not a new request but it is a hotly debated one that most of our city officials and elected politicians shy away from.

The 11-foot bronze statue atop the monument was sculpted in Florence, Italy by Lorenzo Baldi and financed by Syracusans of Italian descent in 1934. It faces west since this is the direction in which Columbus sailed to America. The surrounding fountain is by James Dwight Baum, who supervised the entire project.

I'm curious to know what requests are bubbling up in your area of the country as a result of the protests.

I hope what the world has and is still witnessing as far as protests and riots go, serves as just a SAMPLE of what the world can expect to see if such occurs again.

May the world turn into an inferno the next time some cop kills or abuses a helpless, innocent person.
 
How many times do the people of this world have to endure the likes of crooked cops, crooked lawyers, crooked judges, and a crooked legal system, before people say enough is enough.

Yes, I know the song!

Sadly, in many ways I have, Em, and that's due in part to seeing the underhanded, scummy ways of this world. I've never been one to allow people to kick me around, so I'm all for standing up to bullies and callous acts.

You do realize innocent people were killed during the riots. Try to imagine what would happen if what you want to happen would take place. You could wind up being the victim of that inferno.

Sadly, that is the end result when you push people too far. Let it serve as a reminder for the future.

What does may mean in legal terms?
a choice to act or not, or a promise of a possibility, as distinguished from "shall" which makes it imperative. 2) in statutes, and sometimes in contracts, the word "may" must be read in context to determine if it means an act is optional or mandatory, for it may be an imperative.

As I understand your post I read it as you wanting our world turned into an inferno. What kind of people do you envision would be controlling what would be left?

Think of "may" in terms of absolute.

Change doesn't come by way of those who allow themselves to be kicked again and again or beat into the ground, and change definitely doesn't come about as a result of people opting to lie-down or stay down after a beating, change comes by way of people standing up for themselves and fighting back, and as with any battle, ugly happens.

I could choose to engage topics such as this with an emphasis on pleasing the broad audience by sugar and candy-coating everything I say, but that's not me. It's a free world, and for those wishing to go through life following the weak and living as though you are weak, have at it, but don't look to me in hopes of gaining a follower or supporter.

That sounds a lot like change comes from those that would destroy in order to emphasize their point of view. Would you categorize Martin Luther King as weak? Or any leader that promotes sane dialog over violence. There is no sugar coating what took place on either side. To promote violence as in our world becoming an inferno might sound like an act of strength but in my reality it is cowardice based on the inability to settle differences in a peaceful manner.

BTW you didn't respond to, not that you are obligated to I'd just like to know what would life be like if violence was the way to change the world.

Those are your words, but truthfully, if that's what it's going to take to see change happen, then I welcome any/all change.

As for what would life, our world, etc, etc, look like if violence were to be the controlling element in the way of change? Chaos, mayhem, carnage, and beyond.
