It's such a shock when you fall

Neighbor and landlord care enough to check on you and you were annoyed. Maybe the partner will not be so kind.

My neighbor was very concerned, that's why she phoned landlord. When landlord saw my condition & realized I was OBVIOUSLY NOT injured, plus my thinking and speaking he saw/heard was clear, it was very strange for him to take so long standing there talking to me, shees, I was barely covered. I've met his ex-partner and learned that he is a good guy.

Just last week BF did some grocery shopping for us. He uses one of those carriages seniors use to transport groceries from the car to the house. He's a strong guy and could have just carried them y their handles the way I always do but he used the carriage and I didn't know. When I got home from work the carriage was left where it should not have been. I crashed into it then it feel on top of me.

I had to take Thurs. and Friday off from work. I'm still bruised and rubbing arnica all over my knees. No serious damage done.
what's a carriage, Chic ?.. dya mean a trolley / a cart ?

oh I've never seen those before.. what are they used for ?
What????????? Laundry, grocery shopping, short shopping trips if you don't want to carry stuff. I can't believe you don't know especially the first one?

It's funny here, holly. Old ladies use the first one instead of a walker/rollator. They are vain. I always laugh inside at that.

I slid downstairs this morning. I think the damage is minimal as it was only half way down. No doubt I shall pay over the next few days. Mainly carpet burns!
Recently I scalded my hand and bumped my head on a cupboard door - which I had left open and stood up into. That did hurt.
I felt so foolish each time.
I wondered which ways anyone else here has hurt themselves recently? Why do we do it?
Sorry for your fall. I hope you heal up quickly.
I sometimes fall outside. I did just the other day. It seems to be a balance issue. Medications are part of the problem.
I hope you discover a way to reduce your falls.

I'm sorry to hear that, hope you're okay, it could have been a lot worse without the carpet or outdoors on cement. Those things happen to me too, bumping my head when coming up under things, luckily none of my injuries were serious. Please don't feel foolish, we're all human, we all get busy and distracted, it happens to the best of us....hugs.

I face planted out in the woods behind my house one day last summer, carrying some lumber. Laid there for a few minutes, glad I had my phone in my pocket. I then realized that to direct EMS to my location would have been complicated. And they would never have been able to get a gurney back there. Would have had to use a stretcher; even then, it would have been tricky.

I don't carry lumber that way anymore. And I always carry my phone in my pocket.

SO went through several sessions with a physical therapist specializing in balance over the last two months to prep for a "play date". He has had numerous ear surgeries.

House rule #1 - cell phone on and on you. Mummy broke her neck, a hip, several vertebrae in three falls in three years.

I fall occasionally while skiing but rarely does such cause injury because I am balanced like a cat. During 8 days so far this winter, I have fallen once that was trivial. In 2022 I fell skiing just under my own feet and strained my right shoulder rotator cuff then expected it would heal in a week or two. Instead suprinspinatus tendonitis developed and I did not ski again that winter. Took 5 months before I could raise my right arm much above my head. Was normal after about a year.

The rest of you folks be careful and mindful that falls as seniors tend to heal poorly resulting in complications reflecting falls as a leading cause of injury death. Best prevention for those still capable is to be active, keeping one's body strong. A prime reason I dance so much.

Nonfatal and Fatal Falls Among Adults Aged ≄65 Years — United States,

In the United States, unintentional falls are the leading cause of injury and injury death among adults aged ≄65 years. Patterns of nonfatal and fatal falls differ by sex and state...In 2020, 14 million (27.6%) older adults reported falling during the previous year. The percentage of women who reported falling (28.9%) was higher than that among men (26.1%). The percentage of older adults who reported falling ranged from 19.9% (Illinois) to 38.0% (Alaska).

In 2021, 38,742 (78.0 per 100,000 population) older adults died as the result of unintentional falls. The unintentional fall-related death rate was higher among men (91.4 per 100,000) than among women (68.3). The fall-related death rate among older adults ranged from 30.7 per 100,000 (Alabama) to 176.5 (Wisconsin).

I had a fall a few months back. I was walking in the upstairs hallway, and it is narrow there. One of my cats was doing that weaving around my ankles maneuver, and I went down like a stone. I could not get up because there was nothing to grab on to, so had to yell for hubby. I felt so powerless! I only had a few bruises, thank God.

I've used this when I didn't have a car, and I wasn't old yet, lol.
you will never see anyone young in the UK using one of these...

If anyone younger IS going to use anything like this it will be something like this..pull along..not push.....push troleys are just for the very old to support them and stop them from falling. However all that said, I still have never seen an empty trolley like was posted above..

I was at the gym a couple of years ago and I use cables hanging down from what looks like a swing set to stretch. I didn't realize someone had wrapped the cable around a hook. I was stretching backwards, the cables came loose and I landed right on my backside. It was so painful I was tearing up. Later in the year I had severe shoulder and neck pain. I did physical therapy and it eventually went away. I'm pretty sure it was from that accident.

As for blood, I frequently hit the back of my hand on a doorknob or the kitchen counter. I've actually torn the flesh and had blood oozing out. I always bruise badly.
