It's such a shock when you fall

I have never seen these before... do people buy these ?...what would Chic's SO be doing bringing one home from the supermarket ?
They sell them at Amazon Hols. You can buy them in many places here. Seniors use them all the time. My mom still walks and uses one a lot to throw away trash and transport books from the library. I think they're great. Just not inside. :D

A while back, I lost my balance in the bathroom just as I was going to enter the shower; there no problem in catching myself. What it did make me realize is that I needed to re-evaluate what would happen if I didn’t. I bought a mat for inside the shower and my cellphone is always within an easy reach.

Knew a fellow who an extreme athlete and younger than me at the time. He fell in his bathroom. Became a quadriplegic. It was just a fluke accident.

you will never see anyone young in the UK using one of these...

If anyone younger IS going to use anything like this it will be something like this..pull along..not push.....push troleys are just for the very old to support them and stop them from falling. However all that said, I still have never seen an empty trolley like was posted above..

Once, I put my cat in her carrier on top of one of these to take her over to my daughter's house. It worked!

I’m sure bipedalism seemed like a great idea a few million years ago. But at the time life beyond 30 probably seemed far fetched.

I don't know that I've ever seen one with that came with a bag. Some folks using those carts will tote along assorted bags in them, but nothing anywhere close to as handsome as the bags in your photos.
Good grief, honestly we just don't have those empty cage like trolleys here it makes little sense, surely everything falls out of them :ROFLMAO:

I don't think people just load them with stuff, they always have their own bag. When I used them for groceries, two paper bags would fit nicely side by side in the cart.
yes see that makes even less sense doesn't it ?.. people are having to carry an extra bag when in fact they just need to have the ones we have here which include a very strong bag.....we ve had them here since I was a child...

This is the type most people who use them have... they come in loads of styles, sizes, colours,..they holds loads, and the bags are waterproof..

...and this is what the most elderly or infirm use, which keep them steady on their feet while carrying their shopping

Mitch McConnel fell leaving the Senate today. Its Old Peoples bigger harmer.
Reasons to have grab bars at most doorways / stairways and hallways, not just bathrooms.
Best reason to retire too! Some stubborn just have to learn the hard way, and stare and
not understand stuff. Just stare!

I slid downstairs this morning. I think the damage is minimal as it was only half way down. No doubt I shall pay over the next few days. Mainly carpet burns!
Recently I scalded my hand and bumped my head on a cupboard door - which I had left open and stood up into. That did hurt.
I felt so foolish each time.
I wondered which ways anyone else here has hurt themselves recently? Why do we do it?
So glad you didn’t break anything, Rose! I find, as someone else said, I’m more likely to get in trouble when I’m hurrying. I’m finding it helpful to slow down and focus whenever I’m in motion doing something.

Everyone be careful! Here’s an excerpt I found online: “Falls are particularly dangerous for the elderly due to their frequency and severe consequences. The dangers of falling for older adults include serious injuries like hip and hand fractures, head trauma and even death.”

I don’t mean to sound morbid, I want you all to stay mindful out there and practice safety! That way, we’ll all be able to take care of ourselves and stay in our homes longer.

I am in my 70's, 6' 1" and around 285lbs. I have not fallen in years. Even though I played football and wrestled I now understand how dangerous a fall would be for me at this point in my life. We have one set of stairs that are carpeted, but I still know they are dangerous for me to go on, so I avoid going down the stairs unless I have to! I always try to keep focused when walking to avoid falling. So far, so good...but eventually I know I will likely fall.

Life is not fair...
Please don’t think that you will likely fall! That sounds too much like a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you hold on tight (always!) and go slowly, you’ll be able to catch yourself if you feel yourself starting to fall.

Yes, we have to be sensible about aging. Aging happens to all of us if we’re fortunate enough to live so long. Sometimes retirement is the best thing for us. This doesn’t mean we become useless and do nothing. It’s a grand opportunity to explore other pursuits we’ve forgotten and that make us happy.

I've noticed my balance isn't everything it used to be. It seemingly used to operate on automatic, so much so that I came to count on it and didn't worry about good traction on a hill. That's no longer there.

But my wife is the one who took another tumble just yesterday. She went to kick a plastic bottle on the ground and lost her balance. In December she tried to step off a too-tall curb and fell. Before that she tripped on some uneven concrete in her studio and face planted. I can see where this is going. Falling really is the enemy as Atul Gawande says in the book On Being Mortal.
So sad, but true. The up side? We’re still here to enjoy sunrises and sunsets.

I think the only times in recent memory that I stumbled or fell were all related to walking the dogs. A sudden, unexpected leash pull (oh look, a squirrel!!) when I was distracted and down I went, taking most of the impact on the heel of my hand and one hip. I had to pick gravel out of the hand wound which was bleeding profusely, and my hip area was black and blue!

Another fall because I hadn’t realized both dogs’ leashes had wrapped opposite ways around my legs (again I was distracted) and I landed on one knee with a bit of an abrasion.

In deference to my advancing years (I’ll be 72 in April) I don’t run up and down stairs any more, I walk and hold the rail. I don’t have stairs but clients do. I probably average 15 flights a week.

I’m super careful when it gets snowy and icy. Luckily our driveway is gravel so it’s much easier to walk the dogs down it to get to the road to walk them. No sidewalks but lots of grassed edging that I can walk on which again isn’t slick like pavement is.

My bone density tests are always normal (so far!🤞) because of a careful diet and exercise.
You’ve been lucmy

Be careful! I have a friend that had a bad fall while walking her dog and she broke her femur. It took a long time to heal with months of physical therapy. Old bones take a long time to heal! She never fully recovered and ended up in a wheelchair. We love our animals but they don’t know any better but we could still end up getting hurt.

They make the Push 3-wheeler Golf bag carts for Golfers too.
The thing about aging is Stiffness and pain. Sure loosening exercises help, if you don't fall.
Knowing reflexes also slow and weakening hand grips & using the railings / Handles, all most everywhere in the home wise.
