It's such a shock when you fall

This is the type most people who use them have... they come in loads of styles, sizes, colours,..they holds loads, and the bags are waterproof..

...and this is what the most elderly or infirm use, which keep them steady on their feet while carrying their shopping

This is similar to my cart. I bought it in early 2020 so I didn’t have to use the carts in the store. It’s really sturdy. I don’t use the liner provider. Nothing is getting wet on the way to the store. They don’t like you putting the unpaid goods into a closed bag. It also gives more leeway without it. I generally just use this when I have heavy items, like a gallon of milk and then pile other things in bags around it.

The cart can be pushed or pulled or moved along side me with just one hand. You can also see the small wheels for climbing stairs.

My cardiologist always asks me if I've fallen and when.
I always tell him it was the winter of '81.
Why do they just assume I fall down?
It is a stereotype. You won't see any pediatrician asking a two year old's mother: "How many times has he fallen down since we last saw him?" :ROFLMAO:  Is ridiculous, ALL older people do not fall down. But when we do we break things more frequently because our bones are not flexible like they were when we were 2.

Better be careful. I know someone who was 42 years old. He worked in a hospital and went outside after work to go home. He fell on the ice and banged his head. Security saw this on a camera and came out to help him. He said he was fine and went home. 3 days later he was dead.
Did he die from injuries in the fall he took?

this is the problem for so many when it comes to falls, it's the head getting banged on the concrete..perhaps all of us who go out on icy roads should wear a helmet similar to a bicycle helmet..

A 77 yo male, a long time resident and life time skier, fell skiing on a powder day Monday and died. He was "off-piste" - skiing btwn a groomed run and a groomed cat track below. Speculation on the cause of death is focused on asphyxiation or heart attack. Landing upside down getting face full of "hot shmoo" - heavy, wet snow packed in an open mouth and nostrils can be quite a shock.

I've banged my head on my clothes dryer door (have the single stacked unit type with washer below and dryer above) recently.

But luckily no falls (that I can think of) since the three times I fell in 2022 (first fall I tripped over a vole mound in the grass in my yard in Nebraska; the second fall was from stepping on an uneven spot of a sidewalk while on a tour of the Erie Canal - quite embarrassing as subsequently the tour guide made the whole group walk on the far side of the walkway by the canal because she "didn't want any of us to fall in"; third fall was in a hotel room when I was getting ready to give medicine to my cat and he made a dash to go under the bed and I fell trying to grab him).

Gravity is so much stronger than it used to be, in the past I could lose balance and hop along till regaining it, but now gravity just snatches me down without warning.

I try to be very careful now, hold on to handrails for stairs, use a walking stick on trails, etc.

To chime in on the shopping cart subject, I use one that is only a bag. I bought it after I moved to my condo because it is a hassle to go back and forth through the parking lot, lobby, elevator, down a hall, etc., so this way I can bring all my groceries from my car to my apartment in one fell swoop. I don't use it in the store, only between the car and home.

Any time you fall and whack your head you need to be checked for brain bleed, especially if you are older. The vessels become more fragile. And it doesn't always show up immediately either.

I was barefoot in the backyard, stepped on something sharp which started the dance to find a "softer" spot to land. I think I hurt myself more trying to avoid the fall than just by rolling with it. Kind of like life's problems.
