Japan volcano possibly nearing an eruption.

The Hakone volcano , which is only around 50 miles from the city of Tokyo, has been showing signs of waking up in the last few weeks, and volcano experts are now saying that there is an excellent chance of an eruption.
Since Japan had another volcano erupt unepectedly this year, killing many of the hikers along the side of the mountain; authorities are not taking any chances with this one, and have closed the area to the public.
Hakone volcano has been inactive for the last 800 or so years; so the last time it actually erupted would have been back in the Middle Ages.

Now, the ground is getting hot, steam is pouring out, and also, the ground is rising. Since this volcano is so close to Tokyo, it could very well do a lot of damage if it does erupt.

When Mt. St. Helens erupted, the ash drifted all the way across Washington State, and into Idaho, and even into Western Montana.
That is several hundred miles; so many areas around Japan could be affected by this eruption, depending on which way the wind was blowing when and if it erupts.

One really strange thing, is that after the earthquake near Las Vegas, the water level in Lake Mead (reservoir for Hoover Dam) also dropped amost 10 feet in two days.
There is a lot of talk about it on the internet, but no real ideas of what happened. Now, they are saying that the sensor was not working right on those two days, and the fixed it; but now it shows the water going up, not down.
People living in that area seem to be reporting that the water did actually go down; so maybe some kind of a sinkhole opened up under the lake.

Volcano in Japan pops. Earthquake in Alaska. Same day?

Wouldn't want to be on that lattitude. It sounds like the Pacific rim has a bad case of indigestion.

There was also another earthquake in California, all in the same 12 hour time period. Interestingly, this one was right near the Mt. Shasta volcano, and was right at the Lake Trinity Dam located near there.
This is the second time we have had a good-sized earthquake very close to one of our most important dam just in this month. Worrisome....

I just heard about the Trinity Dam quake today. We have our usual vacation reservations at Trinity Lake in July. Hope it quiets down by then.....We live at the base of a volcano-growing up I was always told that this volcano was extinct but now that I live here full time,I am learning that it is only dormant,so who knows what kind of excitement we could be in for. We are pretty seismically active in this county, but it seems related to the geysers we have in the area and not the volcano.
