Thank you for your kind words. While I was in the Bridgepoint hospital I made good use of their in house library. I found a book that you might find interesting, title is Canadians in the Civil War by Claire Hoy, ISBN number is 1-55278-450-9 published in 2004 by McArthur & Company . It may be available through a inter library choice, check with your local community library for details.

I am home now, but I still have a ways to go to get back to more mobility in the house and on the street. I have a male RN who comes twice a day to do wound care on my right foot, which has a lingering skin problem. JIMB.

Glad to have you back @jimintoronto , hope your have a full recovery.

From another Torontonian 👍
Hello. I was one of the original 12 members of the Centennial Rod and Custom club in 1967. My 55 chevy 2 door is long gone, but I still follow the Canadian Vintage Modifieds club who race at Flamboro Speedway near Hamilton. 2026 is their 60th racing season, and many of the car owners/drivers are third generations of some of the original families.

A long time friend of mine . Gary Elliott is the same age as me 79, and 2026 will be his 56 th continual season of oval track racing. He has had Quaker State Motor Oils as his primary sponsor for 53 years now. He shows no signs of retiring. He spent decades racing in Ontario but in 2017 he moved back to Nova Scotia. In 2023 he was inducted into the Canadian Motor Sports Hall of Fame as a driver and builder. JIMB.

Oh, it does sound interesting... thank you for the recommendation. And your Brenda is indeed a treasure and obviously took excellent care of everything (including you!) :giggle:

Great to see you back Jim! Continued good health to you as well.
And aren't we fortunate here in Canada to have publically funded medical!
Absolutely agree with your statement. Eleven months in total, three different facilities TGH, Toronto Rehab, and lastly Bridgepoint hospital. No cost, no question that I received top notch care for my medical conditions, which were a number of serious medical issues. As luck would have it....I fell in the shower room at Bridgepoint, and broke 3 small bones in my left ankle. Fortunately the fractures did not require pins or metal wiring, but it set me back 7 weeks while I had a cast on my leg.

My single room was on the 7th floor over looking the Don Valley Roadway , and the Don River Valley parklands. I had a single room because I was tested and found to have a C deficil infection, which required all staff to wear gowns, gloves and masks in my room for about 5 weeks. I spent a lot of time watching the Hawks and Falcons who hunt pigeons in the Don Valley area.

I put my time in Bridgepoint to good use, learning some basic phrases from my Japanese nurse, Komiko. I now can greet some body in Japanese, say please and thank you, and tell them to have a good day. She was the best nurse, very effective, gentle and all ways smiling. Her English is superior and she has a degree in both Nursing and English Literature. JIMB.

I thought you might like that book. It has a lot of little known facts in it. For example, less than 3 weeks before Lincoln was murdered, his killer was seen meeting with Confederate officers in Montreal, Quebec. JIMB.

welcome back jim. sorry you picked up the cdiff while you were away. medical facilities are excellent breeding grounds for that kind of stuff.
