June is the month for weddings! Do people really know what they are getting in to?

Even if they have been living together, as is usually the case these days, it seems that things change once the knot is tied. Role expectations may change and pretenses may be dropped as they settle into a permanent arrangement. In short, we marry strangers in many ways for the most parts...
 

I think it is a good idea to live together for about 2 years to get to know the person pretty well to see if you are truly compatible and if you can put up with all of their "cute" habits! lol. I think by that time you will either run like hell out the door or be ready to go to the minister and get married.
 
Most would probably agree with you, and many make many "practice" runs...:eek:nthego:
 

Yes! Get to Vegas and get married with an Elvis impersonator singing Love Me Tender...
 
Which would still be more entertaining than Walmart. I read about a couple who did that...how romantic, then they loaded up the truck and drove off into the sunset:p
 
I seem to recall that years ago, it was a sort of joke - "let's get married before the end of the financial year". In the days that married people paid less tax, I think that men could reclaim some tax for the financial year in which they married, hence March was the most popular month.

The standard wedding has been nothing but about the party since the 1980s I'd say. If people would think past the party divorce lawyers and catering businesses would be out of business.

Do they really know what they're getting into? LOL
 
I definitely married a stranger. We had two dates before we got married. OK, to be honest, those two dates were followed by nine months of long-distance courtship....purely phone and mail. The next time I saw him, we were getting married in two days. A short honeymoon and then I didn't see him for four months. It lasted for 37 years, but we really were strangers to each other when we started married life. That was probably for the best because I doubt we would have gotten married if we knew each other better.
 
See we lived together before marriage...Sonny Corleone. And after marriage...Sonny Corleone. I think it's about OUR age. I was 26 and didn't know much better...by our fifties hubby is the mellow one and I turned into Joe Pesci.
 
The bachelor parties are great, the receptions can be fun, but you cannot go back to your own home alone crawl in to sleep it off, you just got yourself a new boss.
I remember when I married my children's mother, she was a stranger, and got stranger and stranger...........
 
We married after two years of dating and knew each other very well-no need to live together beforehand. My parents wouldn`t have allowed it anyway and at 17 I had to live by their rules. It was definitely not about the "party" for us-we did not want a big wedding and really just wanted to elope. Our parents wanted to see us be married though so it ended up a small church wedding with family only present. Of course,we both came from families with 5 kids so there was still quite an audience. Afterwards was a brunch at the local Pancake House and then we were off to Disneyland lol! Only place we could really go at 17 & 19. We would do it all over again exactly the same too :)
