Hello to anyone who happens this way........

For a few more months I'm living in Texas but will be returning to my home in Alaska next spring. After 48 years living on the East coast went to Alaska to work on a project and found where I was meant to live. Came to Texas to spend some time with the family and can't wait to drive back home. For those of you who have been to Alaska you know why it would be a great place to live for everyone else I had the privileged to live for 20 years in a remote cabin in Northern Alaska where every day when I went out the door I could experience a land touched by the hand of God.

Of all the places I've visited over the years, the few months I spent in Alaska are at the top of my 'most enjoyed' list. I especially loved all the tiny towns at the ends of the roads; for instance, the old gold mining town of Hope down the Kenia Peninsula. Went for an afternoon and stayed 3 days. Made friends with a shop owner and - at her invitation - parked my motorhome in the driveway and had a proper visit. Her father and grandfather had been gold miners and she shared lots of stories of their adventures.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I wouldn't put much faith in the shows on TV as far as what Alaska is really about. The only one that is close to the reality of living in wilderness Alaska is 'Life Below zero', but then I am not talking about just a short visit but living like I did off-grid in the wilderness.

I am sure they have many stories about Alaska and I am glad they had the chance to experience it.

Thanks for replying. I had a visitor to my remote cabin from an Australia a few years back who followed my blog and was visiting some relatives down in Fairbanks. I found her way of life 'down under' had quite a few similarities to mine.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and congratulations for being able to visit Alaska. I am sure you have more memories than most who only come for a short time and being in an RV you experience was all the richer for being closer to nature. When visitors have the time to meet real Alaskans it only enhances the visit and I can see you trip to the last frontier was indeed blessed.

Yes Alaska is a great place to live and visit but be careful 99% of the TV shows, except for those like the National Geographic exploring series, are not real no matter what they say. The only one I found close to showing what life is like living in the wilderness of Alaska is 'Life below zero' and though I can attest to the fact that it shows how we live in the 'bush' it is not for everyone because it does show some fairly graphic scenes about how we get out food to survive.
