I was born and raised in the Santa Clara Valley. We had several quakes. I wasn't there for the big one, but I visited Santa Cruz a year or so afterward. What a mess. How far from a major fault line are you. Everybody keeps wondering is this going to be the BIG one. The one where half of California falls into the sea. I know this one was small, and glad of that. I remember how weird they are. It is like your surroundings are melting. Do you live anywhere near Edwards Air Force Base?So far so good. This was really a minor quake, but when one happens it gets your attention. The last quake we felt was centered near Trona / China Lake area in 2021, about 2 hours north. That one was much stronger, 7.1 with considerable damage there.
We are **really really** near the the San Andreas Fault, it runs right through our community. It runs though Cajon Pass, up Lone Pine Canyon, through Wrightwood and goes west and then follows the 14 fwy north along the Eastern Sierras.I was born and raised in the Santa Clara Valley. Letting off steam --that's good!We are **really really** near the the San Andreas Fault, it runs right through our community. It runs though Cajon Pass, up Lone Pine Canyon, through Wrightwood and goes west and then follows the 14 fwy north along the Eastern Sierras.
Edwards AFB is west of here, about 54 miles.
Yes, according to the geologists we need lots & lots of smaller quakes to let off steam, in order to avoid the 'big one'. Not sure that's actually possible, but then the geologists don't really know for sure either.Letting off steam --that's good!
Even if you can't avoid the big one, these little shakers may reduce the severity of the big one.Yes, according to the geologists we need lots & lots of smaller quakes to let off steam, in order to avoid the 'big one'. To tell the truth I'm glad we don't have seasonal flooding and highly damaging wind like tornadoes and hurricanes.I can't imagine being a major earthquake. Mother Nature at her worst.
Right. No place is perfect. To tell the truth I'm glad we don't have seasonal flooding and highly damaging wind like tornadoes and hurricanes.
