Hello everyone.
Have just joined the forum and hope in time to 'meet' you all. You will note I have said 'a very senior senior' Why? because I am 88 years young

Welcome, Fred! You're not the oldest one here. :)

Just a little about myself.
I live on my own, still do most of the work around the house (Mobile home) though there are things I have to get someone in to do for me. I am pretty mobile still. A walk every morning, weather permitting. I still drive though not very far. I am an ardent bird and animal lover. I used to travel to air shows up and down the country but age has put a limit on that now.
I dabble in watercolours, and run a monthly quiz show at our village hall.
I have lived in the countryside most of my life and love it. I did spend eight years in His Majesty,s Army, (The RAC) Italy, Egypt and Malaya.
All in all I am just an ordinary bloke, Have never done anything special though I do have a police record. I was once fined 5 shillings for giving a friend a lift on the crossbar of my bike and once got a thick ear from the local bobby for scrumping apples.
Those were the days.

will open up again in the morning as I am going to watch the footie now so till tomorrow when I shall look in again and read all the threads I will say goodnight.

Sounds like you've got a busy and enjoyable life. Where in the UK do you live? I'm in west Scotland.

Hello from Toronto, Fred. I'm impressed with how active you are. Wish I could attend your quiz shows. I think you will enjoy this forum. Lots of lovely friendly people here.

Hi Fred, good to have you join us!

Thank you everyone for your very warm welcome. I feel 'fitted in' already.
I see we have a friend from Canada. Before the first WW my father and one of his brothers went to Canada to work on the CP Railway. My father joined the Canadian Army Service corps during the war but was wounded and discharged. He stayed back in his home country.
His brother Tom was supposed to have left the army and joined the RCMP. but when I was researching my family history (I have got back as far as 1445) I found he was never in this force but a down and out in Toronto.
I will talk later as I have housework to do so till then.
Take care and once again many thanks for your warm welcome.

This a multicultural forum, Fred. Australia, US, UK, Canada. I see you live in the lovely county of Dorset.

I used to live in Dorset or Darzet as the locals call it as my father was a dairyman on a farm not too far from Shaftesbury. I love Dorset. It seems to me to be in a time warp and not caught up in the crazy modern world.

Welcome justfred. You should feel privileged. Not many of us will see 88, although we are hoping to and maybe even beyond. I see that you are a history buff on wars. I live about 25 miles from Gettysburg and have studied the Civil War throughout my life. I don't claim to be a Historian, but I do think I am more knowledgeable than the average Joe on the street. The battle I am most interested in was the battle to take Vicksburg. I think that was the turning point of the war, even though everyone gives that fame to Gettysburg.

I noticed you said you like animals -- do you like New Forest ponies?

What football team do you watch?

I have never gotten to see an air show but used to enjoy watching skydivers (did a little myself but nothing like some of my friends).

Really my Dad was born in 1922 and can run circles around all of us. You're a Spring Chicken!
