Kate Middleton portrait controversial?

Why do people still call her Kate Middleton? She is Catherine, Princess of Wales. The painting does not capture any of Catherine's lovely qualities and in my opinion, looks amateurish.
I get on my high horse about that too.... it's the Media to Blame, they always call her Kate Middleton, so disrespectful..... even William doesn't call her Kate...

What is it with portraits these days on TV (Portrait Artist of the Year) and Royal and or Presidential portraits? What the heck?? Is likeness not important??? It just makes me ill to see some of these portraits (former President Obama, King Charles, Princess Kate) by these so called professional artists. How do they get these commissions??? It must be who you know not talent in portrait painting for sure!! If I were Kate, I would be screaming blue murder at the dunce head who painted that portrait of her.

the unfortunate thing is that having had a cancer scare, and now having preventative treatment, I would imagine the last thing Catherine or William are likely to do is let themselves get upset..over what at the end of the day is something quite trivial...I think the rest of the world has got angry on her behalf ..lol

With so much photography in the record now, in the history books, I think painters try very hard to create something that does not look like just another photograph of the person.

I don't know if that should be their goal - seems an accurate painting is still something most of us cannot do, so why not show off your accuracy skills Mr. or Ms. Artist, but perhaps that is the thinking? Impressionism vs. accuracy.

I'm not sure what the medium is but it isn't conducive to soft edges. The face suffers from harsh treatment.

I have heard it said that all portraits are portraits of the artist. It might be interesting to see what the artist looks like.

Wow - I just had a terrible thought. Are they painting this now because someone is worried she might die?
what ?..painting a portrait of somebody who looks nothing like her in case she dies ?.... lo... I don't think so... on either point. ..and anyway she's not about to die ?.. from what ?.. she's not ill, she's just receiving preventative treatment because they found something that COULD have turned into Cancer... but didn't....in fact we were told just yesterday she'll be back to work in June...

Is the Tatler an anti-Royalty magazine? They’re the one that commissioned the portrait, at least that what a couple of reports seemed to be saying.

The portrait looks to me as if someone hung limp, soiled, wet rags upon a stick figure.

The face almost has no eyes until you get up close. I never saw Catherine as "beautiful", but instead, nice looking with regular features. (except for different eyebrows) This portrait made her look quite unattractive. No fair!

This seems to be a hot topic in today's news, which is a bit surprising, here in America. I doubt that Jill Biden would get so much publicity, if a magazine put an awful picture of her on the cover.

Could be a slow news day, or maybe people are just getting sick of the usual faces in the news. Apparently the picture is not well-liked in Britain; I have no opinion one way or the other.

It did make me wonder if Kate herself had any say in using the portrait. Or are these matters completely out of their control? If it was a commissioned portrait, I guess they got stuck with whatever they got.

What we've recently learned is, art is only art is I like it. :D

True hollydolly, I forgot for a moment there that she is ill. Yup, I got angry on her behalf.

I was looking to find a larger picture of the portrait and came across two news videos. I agree with the commentary about the portrait in both videos. @hollydolly The artist is Black and beautiful. Kate is beautiful too but the artist did not capture her beauty at all, in fact. as we can all see, it doesn't look like Kate. How in good conscience could she present this portrait as a likeness of the princess is beyond me! If she was commissioned, I sure hope they didn't pay her after seeing the results. And how did the Tatler get ahold of it, since they are anti-royals?
