Did you ever tell someone something in confidence then later hear it all over? Would you still be friends with that blabbermouth? How good a secret keeper are you?
Seeking absolution, perhaps? Here's a thought: Why  would anyone want to tell a secret about them-self? What would be the purpose?
Like, some kind of confession to aberrant behavior, cheating on taxes or cheating on spouse?

I think we are all damaged goods. Some people either don't believe in God, or require a more "tangible" forgiveness, that said, there is no guarantee absolution will occur. Yes, those who require apologies are often adverse to accepting them, and rarely apologise themselves. Their guilty *******, how do you plead approach, is sadly lacking in compassion. I call such folks, the frozen people.

I guess it can be said that people feel better about getting stuff off-their-chest, so to speak.
I know and admit that I am "damaged goods", but I think that forgiveness is easier to obtain from God than from humans. Yes, I am jaded in certain ways...
It's ironic that with the people for which receiving an apology is important, that they are the least likely to accept said apology.
I never share private info to anyone with the exception of my Sister and my Daughter. Unless my Husband would need to know the info then I wouldn't tell him because if it was something that would annoy him he would confront someone trying to make things right.. As for keeping a secret that someone tells me I would never repeat it to anyone.
