Lara's Southern Porch Party & Poetry

The storms of life may rage and roar, Dark clouds may block the sun's bright shore. But do not think these troubles come from God's great hand.

For He is love, and love can't harm, His boundless grace a safeguard's balm. The trials we face, the hurts that sting, Are simply discord's echoing.

This world's not perfect, that's all too true, But God's pure goodness still shines through. He gives us strength to persevere, His light still glows when night draws near.

The bad that happens, great and small, Is not His fault, not caused at all by He who fashioned this domain and loves us more than words can contain.

So have faith my child, do not fear, your loving Father is ever near. The darkness fades at morning's dawn, and in His love, you travel on.

This is a wonderful poem, @Paco Dennis! Did you write it?

Can I just slide this one in Laura or is the party over??

A LIFE TIME OF FUN!!

I was brought up to respect all the family

And I did as much as I could

But they all moved away over many a day

And said “ we’ll be back as soon as they could”?

I got occasional cards around Xmas

and even sometimes long distant calls

but the wires got fainter and the cards had no painters?

Twas then had my back to the wall

Thought scouring the world was such good fun

But there’s always a ‘dead end’ somewhere

so there’s just me and me dog in a forest of wood

and I can’t see the trees round the bend ??

the dust is slowly increasing

and alarmingly I don’t seem to care

so I do some “spot cleaning”

and to me it is gleaming!

And occasionally will move around chairs!

Mind; conversations are humming along nicely

I’ve sorted out many a tiff

I explain my position and carefully listen

and can swear I have managed the drift?

I do believe my bank notes are growing

but not seen them or counted for sometime

I’m not a big eater and my waist gets more tweeter

and I’m swamped by the TV all the time?

Well must dash now the chores I see mounting

got beer bottling and spot dusting to do

then of course burst of leisure from whatever gives pleasure

and soon back to keep chattin with yus!

No worries @davey , the porch light is always on and the Southern Porch Party is never over so you're never too late.

Imagine us all around the porch in rocking chairs, porch swings, sitting on the steps, dancing, and listening to music, storytelling and poetry like yours and @Paco Dennis.

And LOTS of Southern hospitality with drinks and food!!

Ah PP - so that is what you look like you stunning lady you!! - [dave swoons in his rocking chair!!]
Sorry to disappoint but that’s not me. My hair is longer and not as silver and I’m not as pretty as she is but thanks for swooning while thinking of me. 🥰 It certainly made me smile.
I’ll pour you some ice tea. I think Lara has something if you are looking for something a big stronger.

She's Paula Deen, age 77, an American chef, has published 15 cookbooks, and TV personality. Had her own cooking show, resides in Savannah, Georgia, where she owns and operates The Lady & Sons restaurant with her sons, Jamie and Bobby Deen. Definitely a Southern Belle.
I knew she was a southern belle soon as I saw her. But 77? She looks fabulous but especially for 77. Beauty AND brains. I thought I recognized her in some cooking shows.
Thanks for the info Lara.
15 cook books. I bet many recipes are keto friendly too.

No. Definitely not "keto friendly recipes"! I remember a joke floating around back in the day that "Her idea of desert is a stick of butter with whipped cream on top."

Gosh you meet all sortsa people at Lara's porch parties - some of em just float away with the breeze! - watch out guys there's some sorta 'net ghosts around?

I had another idea for a porch party, and I helped create a poem for it....Enjoy. :)

On a warm Southern day, the sun shone bright,
Lara's porch party was a delightful sight.
Wooden floors and ceiling fans, rocking chairs galore,
A veranda inviting, with greenery at its core.

Friendly conversations filled the air,
Lively laughter and smiles to share.
Young and old, in summer's casual dress,
Gathered together, a true Southern fest.

Iced tea and lemonade, refreshments so sweet,
Platters of deviled eggs and sandwiches to eat.
A bowl of punch and veggie trays too,
Tempting treats for this joyous crew.

Over on the lawn, games were afoot,
Cornhole and croquet, a competitive pursuit.
Giant Jenga towered high and tall,
While on the porch swing, some relaxed through it all.

Warmth and hospitality, a Southern charm,
People mingling, feeling no harm.
Laughter echoed, joy was rife,
Capturing the essence of a Southern life.

Lara's porch party, a beautiful scene,
A gathering of friends, where happiness reigned supreme.
Memories made on that sunny day,
A celebration of Southern charm, in every way.

The first house I helped build has a front porch with a porch swing. I have had several places we live that had them also. I loved to rock in the swing, sipping on a cool glass of lemon aide. I thank you dear lady, for your hospitality! :)
