Little Known or Forgotten Movies That You have Enjoyed

@againstthegrain Both those movies were almost blockbusters. From the title of this thread, I assumed we were talking about little-known films.

Nothing came into my mind, but I thought I might remember something from others' posts. The only one on here that I saw was Bagdad Cafe. I recall liking it a lot.

Perhaps you'll note the words "OR FORGOTTEN" in the thread title.

My favorite movie of my childhood, along with the original King Kong. If either of those were on TV on a school day, I would pretend to be sick to watch. Grandson asked me what were my favorite movies.
OMG! Me too❣️ I came here to post about this movie, which I consider my favorite movie of all time. As a child, I watched it every night when it came on Million Dollar Movie and have loved mermaids ever since. Also, no other mermaid movie can top this IMO...not Splash or any other. I love William Powell's dry wit and his portrayal. Ann Blythe was so beautiful and her expressions made of for her not having a speaking part. One of my favorite scenes from the movie is when he first realizes he's caught a mermaid. I'm sure I've watched this movie at least 15 times.

One of my favorites, I wasn't expecting much from it but I did see monsters in it so I figured I might as well sit down and try to enjoy it and I thoroughly did.

I also cannot begin to recount all the sci-fi monster movies and 1950s and 60s monster movies and alien movies and Godzilla movies King Kong movies and other huge creature movies.

I finally watched Wicked on Prime. Awful!

What worked fine on stage where things were suggested and imagination was required to make it work just became tedious by making everything explicit and detailed. They didn’t even manage to conclude the story. Hard to imagine anyone returning for part 2, I certainly won’t.

Your review has solidified my decision not to bother.

Another fantasy film I love is One Touch Of Venus. It was the first time I'd seen Ava Gardner in anything and from that day on, I considered her the most beautiful actress of her time. It's a charming story with some musical performances thrown in. I made a homemade DVD of it and have watched it a few times. YouTube is making it likely I'll watch again, since I don't have to pull out the DVD. A department store window dresser falls for Venus when she comes to life after he kissed her statue, which was due to be revealed the next day in an upscale department store.

Trouble is, he's already spoken for. He thinks he has lost his mind and his subsequent strange behavior has his GF and BFF wondering. When he's charged with the statue's disappearance by his boss and the detectives, of course they think he's lying when he tells them what happened. In the meantime, his boss, the store's owner sees a beautiful woman sleeping in one of the department store's beds after closing time and immediately becomes enchanted with her. He proceeds to wine and dine her. Little does he know, that she's his $200,000 statue come to life. Here's the full movie:

@Pepper Since you Liked Mr. P & the Mermaid, you might like this one.

Runaway Train (1985)

Two convicts make a daring escape from a remote Alaskan prison, walk cross-country, swim across a freezing river, and hop a freight train. They think they're home free, but when the engineer dies of a heart attack, they find themselves trapped, alone, speeding towards disaster. Then they discover a stowaway railroad worker who's just as desperate to survive as they are. Jon Voight and Eric Roberts star in Oscar-nominated performances, and Rebecca De Mornay also stars. Beautifully shot by Alan Hume ("For Your Eyes Only"), with top-notch direction by Andrei Konchalovsky ("Maria's Lovers") and based on a screenplay by Akira Kurosawa ("The Seven Samurai").

Buckle up; you're in for a wild ride!

I liked Rebecca De Mornay especially in the movie "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle".
