Local cafe trying to cash in...

It’s expensive here too.

Two hotdogs, French fries, and a beverage $14.95 plus 8% sales tax.

I’m ok but it makes me wonder how parents and grandparents manage when they want to take the kids out for a treat or when a neighborhood dad wants to treat the little league team after a game.
This is a toasted sandwich with no sides.

My advice is to eat at home as much as you can, unless you are traveling or have a reason to eat out (such as in between doctors appointments). For me, there is no reason to intentionally eat out and have hotdogs and french fries. Those are junk food. I would rather bring a protein bar with me than eating hotdogs and fries in a hospital cafeteria.

I wonder the same thing when I see young parents out with their children and I know the restaurant prices are high. I paid almost $18 for a wrap and soda at Just Salad; tax included.

One local coffee/sandwich shop raised prices and had a sign saying 'difficulty finding good help is the new COVID". Someone wrote underneath "Paying living wages is the new vaccine"
Paying living wages or higher than living wages will of course result in higher price.

I think most of us are still living in the memory of the old price from 20, 30 or even 40 years ago. But, time has changed, most people are making more money than 20 years ago, and the stock market has reached all time high repeatedly in the past year. People do have money in their pockets. This cafe priced the basic ham and cheese sandwich at $14 because there are people willing to pay for it.

It’s not just the cost of the ham, cheese and bread. The owner pays for the building, the insurance, the utilities, the furniture, the staff, etc, etc. If someone doesn’t like the prices, they can pack their own lunch. If all places are pricing meals at about the same level, that’s likely what it’s costing them. It’s a tough business.
