Looking for a good browser

Need suggestions for a good browser. I've been using Firefox for a pretty long time, but often I get multiple versions open at the same time (using up space). I delete the 'extra' versions (from Explorer) but they just keep appearing. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

I have been using Firefox since it was Netscape and never come across that. Though to be honest I am not sure what you mean by multiple versions. If there are more than one don't you just click on x in the corner?

It's possible that you have Firefox set to open links in a new window. You can end up with a bunch of open Firefox windows even though only one session of Firefox is open.
Try this,
Open Firefox,
In the address bar at the top of the page type "about: preferences" (don't type the quotation marks and don't leave the space between the colon and preferecnes). Click Enter

Scroll down to the "Tabs" section
Make sure you have a check mark in the box titled "Open links in tabs instead of new windows"

My laptop came with Microsoft Edge too & I soon chose Chrome. It is a lot better for me. Had it at home on a desktop but now have a laptop & it works fine. Someone had told me I had to use "Edge" on here, but proved them wrong.

Except for Firefox, which I haven't tried, I stick with Chrome, since I have consistently noticed fewer results when using other browsers

I don't have extra tabs actually on the screen. Just see a Firefox starter page, as usual. However, when everything slows down and 'loading' just goes round and round, I go to "Task Manager" and see that there are a lot more Firefox open (like sometimes 6 or even 12!!) I close them all , but it happens pretty often. I just went to Task Manager and it said I have 6 Edge open and 27 )!!!) Firefox. No wonder it won't open. What's going on? Yikes. I read that this is not usual with FF. Think I'll try Duck Duck. Thanks.

How about trying "Brave"? If you want a browser that automatically stops ads, use "leo" it's AI to answer inquiries plus sources, Windows not being used are put into neutral so they don't take memory when not used. I have been using the free version for about two years...oh, if you want to start investing in digital 💰 it is a great app to start trading with.

I don't use any of the trading stuff, I have up to 15 tabs open sometime with no problem. I use it on my win 10 laptop, my android phone, and a "Galaxy" tablet. :)

Have been in love with FF for so many years but finally got fed up with the glitches (this despite frequent updates) that are never present in other browsers. Major problem, things wouldn't load on pages in FF but would in other browsers. I've been using Opera now for a few months and it's going very well. I also have Vivaldi, DuckDuckGo and Chrome, which I occasionally use. I also kept FF to access my massive passwords file there. Good luck to you!

Firefox on MacOS/Linux. Safari on iOS - only because I have so many usernames connected to it. Probably need to migrate to FF as well.
I used Chrome for work before I retired. The whole Google ecosystem started to creep me out after being sent to Google training in Phoenix.

If you’re checking out Firefox in Task Manager and noticing a bunch of processes, that’s totally normal. I use Chrome from time to time, and it behaves pretty similarly — at least on my setup. After a few hours of browsing, Firefox tends to spawn quite a few entries. I grabbed a snapshot of my Task Manager so you can see what I mean. Most of these processes aren't using any CPU power though. Honestly, Firefox can be a bit of a memory hog — I’ve seen it climb past 3GB if I've been using it for a long time.

I use Firefox with 'Ublock Origin' ad blocker (UO has almost 10 million downloads to date and is hands down the best). It does a lot more than block ads. It blocks other forms of tracking (almost all ads also track you) and malware sites. I tried Brave browser which is a chrome browser with all that security stuff builtin but it always seemed kind of sketchy with its crypto stuff. People swear by it though. Google has crippled ad blocking in Chrome and you can only get Ublock Origin lite. Better than nothing but nowhere near as complete as Ublock Origin. Computer security is a big part of what I did for a living.

Thanks for that info, Mo. I just added it to my Firefox browser.

Any computer security hints you'd like to share are greatly appreciated!
