Major storm coming our way

Kansas City is getting hit hard. I spoke to an old friend living there an hour ago, and he said they have at least 10", and it's still coming down.

I'm glad that the Chiefs are playing in Denver this afternoon...a football game at Arrowhead would be an absolute mess
The game was an absolute mess.

But the good news is I got to use my snow blower twice today; I hadn't used it in probably three years.

whilst residing in old Hong Kong waiting for the major tyhoon was always good fun as long as you were snug indoors with plenty of bourbon; champagne and lemonade and the live- in amah cooking up a storm too!!

I'm an old Hong Konger myself.......1958 to 1967, aged 5 to 14.
Were there for typhoon Wanda in 1962?

The weather forecasters can’t win.
Don’t predict it; they’re idiots.
Predict it and it didn’t happen; they’re idiots.
Even if they predict it and it happened and the listeners didn’t believe it, the forecasters are idiots.
I don't know, I like "ryan hall y'all" look him up on youtube. He did great job covering the recent Florida hurricanes and the current snow storm.

In general I prefer warnings, even if it later is not as bad as in the forecast.

In the Ahr Valley in Western Germany was a disastrous flood on July 14, 2021. The official weather forecast and (only!) one private weather channel on YouTube warned in the morning, but neither the government of the federal state Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate) nor the district administrator of the Ahrweiler district took it very serious. In the end 135 people died the same evening.

Shortly after the disaster, accusations were made that the district administrator at the time may have passed on early warnings of record water levels far too late and only declared a state of emergency at 11 p.m., when several houses had already been swept away by the flood.

The public prosecutor's office investigated for more than two and a half years on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter in 135 cases and involuntary bodily harm by omission. The investigation focused on the question of whether the consequences could have been at least partially avoided by acting differently.

Almost three years after the devastating flood disaster in the Ahr valley in Rhineland-Palatinate, which claimed 135 lives, the public prosecutor's office in Koblenz has closed its investigation.

The public prosecutor's office in Koblenz has concluded its investigation into the flood disaster. The former district administrator of the Ahrweiler district, Pföhler, will not be charged.

But to come back to the thread: It is good that "the storm isn’t nearly as bad as has been forecast where we are. Thank heavens.", as Peppermint Patty wrote.

Everything here is covered with about 4 inches of snow, on top of a layer of ice. Nearly everything is closed down as the roads are still hazardous. The sun is out, but the temperatures may not get above freezing for several days,. I may get out in awhile and do some shoveling, and clear the driveway with my tractor. The county just cleared our gravel road this morning, so once I do some clearing on our driveway, we'll be able to get out, if we need to.

It is body shop weather:>) Downtown had a water break and everyone went into ice skate mode. Oklahomans act like they do not know how to drive on ice and good tires seem to fall into the same category as blinkers - optional.

Only got a little over an inch and should stop soon. The problem is that the coming week will be highs in the 20s, so the snow will be here for a while.

I used to watch Ryan all the time... but then I switched to Max Velocity... he does the lives but also regular in-depth daily forecasts.

I like a map to be able to visualize the trajectory of the storm. Maps are also helpful when other countries are involved. More maps please.

Finally got the driveway cleared and got some groceries in, ahead of this next snowstorm coming in. I think the local tv weather folks are a bit to excited about snow accumulation, compared to NWS, etc. In any case, it is the following weekend that is showing troubling signs for my area... with mostly below normal temps by about 10°.
