Mary Tyler Moore, whose touchstone of a 1970s sitcom ushered in a new era for women on and off camera, has died. She was 80.
After achieving fame on The Dick Van Dyke Show, Moore won four Primetime Emmys for her work as the spunky and unrepentantly single TV news producer on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which ran from 1970 to 1977. She later earned an Oscar nomination as the icy mother in Ordinary People and co-founded the influential production company behind iconic series like The Bob Newhart Show, Newhart, Hill Street Blues, and St. Elsewhere.
More than anything, though, Moore made her mark as Mary Richards. “I think she represents an indomitable spirit — that she believes, as everyone can, in possibilities,” Moore told CNN of her alter ego in 2002.

She flew with me once that I know of. I believe she was going to New York to do a play, but I'm not sure.

I always liked her and remember her first from the Dick Van Dyke show, RIP.

Sad, she was a very talented woman and it appears a truly decent person. But then, he all have our "check-out" waiting for us. She was just one more reminder.

Iconic figure who was a class act. 2013 seems to be some of the more recent pictures of her. Probably was in poor health for years. Was on life support for several days.

RIP

I loved her shows. She always got into such funny predicaments. I can hear her saying, "Oh, Mr. Grant" as she tried to explain one mix-up or another.

This is the scene she did in Hot in Cleveland, which reunited her castmates from Mary Tyler Moore Show. On one of the television obits of her, it said that her diabetes had really taken its toll on her, and by the time she did this she was nearly blind. Sad.
