Maybe true, Maybe not

The story goes that a man met with President Lincoln and offered money in return for a favor.

Lincoln said, "No".

So the man offered double the amount of money.

Lincoln said, "No".

The man once again doubled the amount of money.

Lincoln said, "Get out of my office".

The man questioned why he was told to leave, when he wasn't when making the previous offers.

Lincoln's reply "You're getting to close to my price"

Could this be true even today?

Cynical and untrue, thank goodness!
😁 Well *I* didn't say it, just heard it forever. Wonder whose quote it is? I'll go check it out.

"An early reference can be found in William Coxe's Memoirs of Walpole written in 1798, which records Walpole (English Prime Minister) saying in 1745: "All those men have their price".

ā€œEveryone has a price, the important thing is to find out what it is.ā€

― Pablo Escobar

ā€œEveryone has a price.ā€ -- Joseph Delaney

Met Ted Dibiase, and a bunch of other wrestlers, through my son's bowling league in the nineties. Lovely gentleman. They all were.

Yes! Very impressive.
have you ever seen the one where the children go to school via the mountain climb..or women climbing with a fridge on their back ?...seriously...

But I still would not attempt it no matter how much money I am offered.

Money is not always ā€œthe priceā€. Imagine being outed that you were gay. Or that you had/have an affair. Perhaps you have had some nefarious other life.
why would anyone care these days about being outed if they were gay ?

I tell you what I have always said, and I mean this..I would never be blackmailed by anyone. I don't care if they knew I'd committed a murder.. if I had.. or anything..I just despise blackmail, and would never allow anyone to do it to me. I would rather out myself regardless of what it was.. than allow scumbags to make money from me ..

Unfortunately, here in the US anyway, there are some areas where the life of any known gay person—hell, even atheists, environmentalists, childless-by-choice, college graduates even!—becomes a living hell; I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
