Mega Large Cruise Ship Holiday

River boats are fun too. I've been on two. One was on the Nile and it was an exercise in ostentation and opulence. Uncomfortable for an Aussie but great sight seeing. The other was on the Murray River in South Australia. No opulence at all but lots of homely touches as we chugged along enjoying the bird life and the very small towns along the river.

A woman was walking along the beach in California and saw a bottle sticking out of the sand. She picked it up and brushed off the sand. Poof! The cork popped out and a genie appeared.

"Greetings to my new Mistress! I am the Genie of the Bottle and for freeing me, I will grant you one wish."

"Oh, let me think. OK, I've always wanted to go to Hawaii!"

"Very well. I will charter you a 747 and you can take 400 of your best friends with you!"

"Oh, no! I'm afraid of flying."

"Well, I can charter you a cruise ship and you can take a thousand of your best friends with you."

"Goodness, no! I'd be terrified to be out on the water like that!"

"Tell me, Mistress, how do you think you are going to get to Hawaii if you don't fly or cruise?"

"I like to drive. I really, really like to drive. Could you build me a road to Hawaii?"

"WHAT? A ROAD TO HAWAII? Do you have any idea what that would take? No one has ever built a road like that. I'm a Genie, lady, but some things are just too much to ask! Think of something else, please."

"
Oh, all right, let me think....... OK, I've thought of something. Help me understand men."

The Genie sighed, "Two lanes or four lanes?"

I have no desire to go on a big cruise ship. Although I might consider a river cruise down the Rhine in Germany.

Done that and also been on a river cruise down the Siene in Paris. Loved them both. Amazingly I have never been on a Thames cruise here in London I keep promising myself a dinner and dance river cruise.

However a huge floating hotel cruise is not for me...I want to go where and when i want to go places, not be dictated to, and then given a few short hours to race around and see a few tourist sights and get back to the boat in time..

I'm an action kinda girl when I'm on holiday...wheareas my daughter works soo hard that she adores cruises it gives her time to just chill by a pool all day, have massages, eat good food and have some entertainment in the evening, get as much rest as possible to recharge batteries and get to see a few countries albeit not far from the ports ...along the way.

But not for me..when I visit countries I wamt to see how the natives live not just the overpriced tourist areas close to the ports..

:DI have sailed and cruised 12 times but have avoided the huge mega 2,000 plus. They are so big there is no feeling of cruising or sailing. My favorite was a 12 day sailing on a 90 ft. twin masted schooner with 10 passengers through the Tonga chain of islands in the South Pacific. My last cruise was on a 500 passenger all inclusive cruise on SILVERSEA from Lisbon Portugal to Monte Carlo with many stop offs in the Med. Overall I really like the Windstar ships and have sailed with them through the Panama Canal the Eastern and Western Carrib. as well as Tahiti. If I could afford it I would spend the rest of my life at sea.:D

My home overlooks the Los Angeles/Long Beach harbor. Almost any day in the week one can see at least ONE (if not several) huge cruise ships leave the harbor;
or arrive here from somewhere else. It's easy to see that they are loaded with (mostly) happy travelers.
Occasionally something goes wrong on a cruise but that's the exception rather than the rule.

My club is RIGHT ON the waterfront and I love to see the water traffic going both ways.

I've been on many cruises and can find no fault with any of them.
