It appears the gunman was an average modest intelligence, military gun loving, methamphetamine user, religious but with nonsense, twisted religious ideas. He had a painful emotional memories due to a flawed relationship with a Mormon woman. The Kirk assassination probably pushed him over the edge into some psychopathic mode.

There are many people, especially during this Internet social media age, that have inadvertently trained themselves to have flawed disfunctional reasoning. Speed drugs like meth actually gradually destroy brain interconnections, impairing the ability to think logically, rationally. Stay away from such people. A long-time friend of Sanford’s, Peter Tersigni, told The New York Times that the gunman’s time in the military changed him.

After leaving the Marines, Sanford went to live in Jeremy’s Ranch, Utah, where he became romantically involved with a woman who was a devout follower of the Mormon church... The Times reports that during these times, the gunman became a heavy user of methamphetamine.

Tersigni said that his relationship ended “painfully.” Tersigni’s brother, Francis, said that the gunman would talk endlessly about Mormons. “He got this whole fascination with Mormons, and they are the Antichrist, and they are going to take over the world. All he could talk about was Mormons. I was like, dude, nobody wants to hear about this stuff,” Francis Tersigni said.

I was speaking to someone I know by phone about the shooting today and she said, "Oh well, they killed the shooter, that's all that matters." No, that's not all that matters. Now I remember why I don't have much in common with that woman.

I would have to add that based on his deployment to Iraq he came back w PTSD. The .gov has to take some responsibility to our servicemen to insure they can lead a good, productive life after their service and not just throw them away like a dirty shirt. "Thank you for your service" is not enough, imo. They need care and we need to be willing to pay for it. This would also reduce the number of trained killers with mental issues w ready access to weapons.

Very true, but Veterans' access to some benefits will make it even more difficult in 2026.

If guns were banned they would find other means to carry out their heinous acts…..example the man that killed a woman on the subway with a knife….or those that have used a vehicle to mow down a crowd of people.

This will end when the second coming happens.

It's a hell of a lot harder to kill large numbers of people with a knife, or even a car, than it is with a semi-automatic rifle. Especially one with a large magazine. Other countries seem to have figured this out.
