This photo is of a Muslim man and a Muslim woman embracing on the floor of Australia's House of Representatives. The man is the first Muslim ever to be elected to federal parliament and the woman is the second and the first female Muslim. She has just finished her maiden speech and is being warmly congratulated by her colleague.

Notice that both are dressed in customary western style dress. Notice also that there is no inhibition about physical contact between a man and a woman who are not related by blood or by marriage.

Who still says that Muslims will never fit in or adopt our values?
 

But wait! Is that a suicide bomb under her blouse tied to her waist that didn't detonate?

Poignant.
 
Our parliament is a broad church. We have our progressives and our regressives too.

Some of our best performers are women. In this photo we have the Minister for Defence (red hair), the first ever woman to hold this position and the Foreign Minister (blonde). Both from the conservative side of politics but both put a lot of their male colleagues in the shade.

They are meeting with their German counterparts. Note that the German Defence Minister is also a woman.
