My first responder son and the riots in LA

A detention of temporary restraint is a Seizure.
I think you are talking of different types. The Marines are able to detain anyone attacking Federal property or personnel and then turn them over to Federal or civilian law enforcement.

The Marines are not permitted to detain citizens for matters that the police would normally handle, however,

The Posse Comitatus Act: This federal law generally prohibits the use of the U.S. military, including the Marines, from acting in a civilian law enforcement capacity, such as making arrests.

I can't understand why LA decided to defend the illegals that are criminals and not allow ICE to do their job. They should be allowed to grab all illegals that have a criminal record.
ICE is indiscriminately grabbing anyone who looks Hispanic. Criminals don't sit in the hot sun, hoping to score day labor jobs at Home Depot, or work in restaurant kitchens, pick produce in the fields, work in sewing factories, do caregiving jobs, and so forth. That's who ICE is profiling, and I'm talking as recently as this morning.

I was referring to Federal matters of detainment to protect federal property etc., they are still constrained by the 4th Amendment while exercising state Sovereign functions. That is a Seizure and must be "Reasonable".

That’s happening in my city too. There were four ice vans sitting outside a nursery the other day. So obviously they were picking up workers.

So, here is a video on Youtube. It is 36 minutes in length.

The video is a one on one interview with an Emergency Department Nurse in a major hospital in California.

I know a lot of people here don't like long Youtube videos, but I thought this was interesting insight into what people in this profession face.

WARNING: It can be gruesome, sad, maddening, and frustrating. However, this is real life in 2025.

I agree that you should leave this discussion. You are talking like a politician. I, on the other hand, debate while taking a neutral stand. It shouldn't be about politics. I can't understand why LA decided to defend the illegals that are criminals and not allow ICE to do their job. They should be allowed to grab all illegals that have a criminal record. No one said a damn word when Obama also deported illegals.

I'm not talking like a politician, I'm not one, and don't ever want to be one. I do, however, have fears that I think are justified. Those fears may or may not resonate with you, which is why we discuss and debate things, right? I seriously doubt anyone truly wants to prevent ICE from doing their job - it is about the way they do it (and in this case the wanton use of the military against US citizens).

When you plan to walk the stands at huge sporting events, stopping and demanding residency or holiday visa's, I think you've entered an era where none of us are truly safe. Perhaps you wouldn't mind having to present your papers once, twice, or however many times you're asked because of your skin color or the language you're speaking, but that ought to frighten normal folk, imo.

And yes, I accept you feel differently, and I'm okay with that. Not everyone in this thread is offensive with it, but sadly, some are, and those I wish to avoid, that's all. It is one thing to be asked for the meaning of a comment posted, but quite another when someone jumps to a negative conclusion and then insists their assumption is correct. It's the equivalent of walking up to a stranger and screaming that they are racist without any context, against simply asking someone what their thoughts were on the topic. ;)

"In George Orwell's 1984, the primary antagonists are the Party, specifically the Inner Party, and its leader, Big Brother, who represent the totalitarian regime of Oceania. While Big Brother is more of a symbolic figure, the Inner Party and its enforcers, like O'Brien, actively control and oppress the population. "

And a story from June 18th:

Today, Members of Congress Danny K. Davis (IL-07), Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04), Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03), and Jonathan Jackson (IL-01) joined immigration lawyers and advocates to conduct a visit to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Processing Center in Broadview, Illinois. The Members were unlawfully denied entry, even after identifying themselves with their official Congressional voting cards.

The visit was prompted by reports that the center is unlawfully being used against city and state ordinances as a detention center, where migrants are being denied access to their attorneys and held in inhumane and unsanitary conditions, sleeping on the floor, and without complete meals. Under appropriation laws, Members of Congress have the authority to enter any facility operated by or for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) used to detain or otherwise house people without advance notice.

“Today, I visited the Broadview Processing Center in our district to stand with my colleagues and families navigating the uncertainty of Homeland Security processes. Providing direct services—legal counsel, translation help, connection to community support—is not just a gesture, it’s a responsibility,” said Congressman Davis. “Our constituents deserve dignity and clarity, especially when they’re at their most vulnerable. I’ll continue to advocate for transparency and fair treatment, and fight to ensure federal agencies in our district operate with accountability and humanity.”

“We came to this center today and respectfully asked to be allowed to conduct an oversight visit, but were denied entry. Last week about 200 people received texts and emails ordering them to report to this processing center and then were detained,” said Congressman García. “Some families were told to come to the processing center on a day when families should have been celebrating Father’s Day. But [political rhetoric removed], their children found themselves not knowing where their dads were or when they would see them again. These are not criminals. These are hard working people who are contributing to our country.”

Here are the translated words from a famous speech. The echoes of the sentiment expressed are harrowing. I hear variations of it almost daily. As they say, if we don't learn from the past, we are doomed to repeat it. We should keep such things in mind when making sweeping decisions. While this didn't lead to the only possible outcome, it does - sadly - preface an outcome we must never repeat. I wish I was over-reacting, but I sincerely don't think I am. YMMV.

Do not speak to us, then, of humanity. The [nation] does not wish for its affairs to be determined and governed by a foreign nation. France to the French, England to the English, America to the Americans, and Germany to the Germans!

We are determined to stop a foreign people from nesting here, a people that has known how to seize all leadership positions, and to deport it; for we are willing to educate our own people for these leadership positions.

We have hundreds of thousands of intelligent children of farmers and workers. We will have them educated, and we are already educating them, and we want them – not the members of a people that is alien to us – to one day occupy the leading positions in the state alongside our educated classes.

Most of all, however, [our] culture is, as the very name suggests, [ours] and not a [foreign] one, and its administration and care will therefore be placed in the hands of our [people].

The speech was given at a rally by Adolf Hitler in 1939.

I understand where you are coming from...

Very dangerous for all ...
What exactly is dangerous?

The impact on national debt?

October 04, 2024.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its analysis of the cost to taxpayers CBO cost federal and state taxpayers more than $16.2 billion to provide Medicaid-funded emergency services to illegal aliens. This is a staggering increase of 124%.
https://budget.house.gov/press-rele...al-aliens-has-cost-taxpayers-over-162-billion.

Or wanting

My preference would be to keep our culture ours. I'd like those billions spent on the poor legal American citizens. I'd really like for the distinction between legal immigrants vs. illegal immigrants to be more the focus. I'd like more to self deport to be able to come back the way immigrants are supposed to.

I do understand there is an element that want the cheap labor that comes with undocumented illegal immigrants because the economy has come to depend on that.

Finding the balance in this issue is an absolute nightmare.

Unfortunately, by the time many people wake up to what is happening in the United States, it will be too late and Germany had an excuse because there was no way for news to travel quickly. Now, unfortunately, there is so much fake news and people don’t see it as their civic duty to keep informed from reliable sources, and therefore are totally ignorant to what is occurring.

I read because of social media many Venezuelans didn’t really realize that they were no longer a democracy until 10 years after the fact. There was a point in time that I really wanted grandchildren but now with seeing what’s happening, I’m glad I didn’t have any. It’s bad enough that my kids will have to live under authoritarianism for the rest of their lives.

Am I the only person who can search on the internet to see if people get paid to be activists-demonstrators- rioters or what ever?
When I tried to post these facts to Facebook they wanted me to put out an ad looking for people to protest.
I had to agree to run an ad on marketplace and then delete it before I could just state the fact that organizations pay people to march and demonstrate.
Maybe there are some old nitwits who waste their time marching around with signs for free but there are a lot of people of all ages who are being paid to march.
LOOK IT UP FOR YOURSELF!
If I can find it in two minutes anybody can!!
Am I the only person who knows there is some very bogus information being perpetuated on the internet? :ROFLMAO:

Honestly, Social Media - along with the worst of legacy media - is driven by drama and dopamine hits. The oft-mentioned mantra of "do your own research" is marred by the simple fact that too many people either don't do any research and take everything at face value, or they don't really know how to research in the first place.

That and the polarization of the audience. Hating on something, or someone, is sadly a great way to get people excited and engaged. So instead of a balanced argument, we get squabbles and finger pointing. It's always a them against us mentality.

In a world where people are concerned about the security of their Social Media accounts, we're more than happy to have people stopped in the street or the sports stadium and to have their papers examined. Why? Those evil immigrants! This is not the way to do things, and we're handing far to much power to unelected officials. We're saying it's okay to use the military against citizens if a building might get damaged - which is the equivalent of using a nuclear device to remove an ant hill.

Worse than that, if you express an opinion such as my own, you'll find yourself labeled as not caring about the country, not caring about security, not caring about crime - which is patently false. I've yet to see a single person - in power or not - say they want unbridled illegal immigration. Not a single one. But, if you're against these extreme measures, you're labeled as someone without any concern for law and order at all. People are simply too polarized.

But, as you elude to, it is the casual acceptance of extremes that is our greatest danger. We simply must hold both our governments, and ourselves, to account for the things we allow done in our name. Without the checks and balances, we're in big big trouble.

You can find out how a lot of things work if you just ask the right questions like how to get benefits as a new migrant.
Found out a long time ago that it is Homeland Security’s job to make sure that new migrants have Social Security numbers soon after arriving here so that they can start drawing all kinds of benefits.
All you have to do is search like you are trying to find out information for yourself and you can find out but otherwise you can just act like other people are stupid because they do things that you don’t like.
You know it is very insulting to act like someone is as simple minded that they believe everything that you believe.
If you want to find out how to bake a pie you search for how to bake a pie.
But if you don’t like pie then you are saying that the information on the internet is wrong and there are no pies.

Fundamentally, the issue with illegal immigration is a problem with our governments. In the UK, it takes months, or even YEARS, to process a single case. It's simply far too long and complex. We need a concerted effort and agreements between countries that are fast, effective, and reasonable. We need to fund this entire process. At the moment it's unorganized, under funded, and inefficient. We need a much faster process.

Still, official figures tell us that in 2024, a little less than 44,000 illegal arrivals occurred in the UK in 2024. 8100 people were returned to their countries in the same year.

That said, we also need to think about things like foreign aid. It's the old "squeeze a tube of toothpaste" situation. If we, as the West, continue to fund wars in/on foreign nations, then we must expect a number of the citizens there to get out any way they can. If people are starving, or their families are dying from starvation or disease, you can expect them to get out however they can.

SF is not letting me reply to multiple people using the "hit reply" feature.
@Fritz I came here to ask what you did... How is Ronni's son doing?
@StarSong You are absolutely right! ICE is profiling and have been indiscriminately picking up people, including Newark, N.J.'s mayor, who BTW is not Hispanic and a veteran who I believe is a Hispanic business owner in his community. What's happening is just not right...it's madness!! @Teacher Terry @VaughanJB

My BFF who is friends with a 90 year old woman (20 years her senior) told me that lady told her years ago that IQ#47's mannerisms and agenda very much reminded her of Hitler's. Her family had escaped the holocaust when she was a child but she heard stories of how Hitler morphed from being a beloved figure to the monster the people finally realized (too late) he was. She also made it her business to read everything she could about the holocaust and identified certain character traits that certain people here in this country seem to be oblivious to.
Martin Neimoller's poem First They Came..... about "Nazi subjugation of Germany during WWII"'

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
