My name isn't "dear", "dearie" or "hon"

Chalk in my water destroying my water heaters, my kettles, showers and having to replace them every couple of years at great expense ....is not a Blessing....
Oh dear, you disappoint me so and should you truly love nature then you would find beauty everywhere and where more than in your little chalk stream which gives so much as it flows a precious few miles in your case. Gaze upon it again sometime. Chalk streams are the elixir of life, their water is the purest, the clearest, the most sweetly flowing, that you will find anywhere. Its weeds are of a green more vivid than the weeds of other rivers, and in the long, gently undulating tresses of them hides a prolific world of nymphs, shrimps, trout, and other little organisms bred by the gift of lime.

Your kettle also needs love, descale it and my Immersion has been used every day for the past 20 years.

I don't get rankled easily but lately I've noticed that young women have started calling me "dear", "dearie" or "hon". Case in point, I was paying for some groceries last week and as the cashier was giving me my change, she said "thanks, dear". Later the same day I had a similar instance where another person called me "hon". I realize I'm not a young chick but I must be an old hen to these younger people. I don't mind if someone calls me "ma'am" but the other names ... no. It sounds insulting to me.

Have you encountered anything similar?
Oh me too, what upstarts the young can be.
One who washes my hair at the hairdresser calls me 'dear', it is annoying but she is just trying to be pleasant I suppose.

In my post #12 I said it doesn't matter to me and it still doesn't but I must say when shopping in Walmart a few days ago
a young gentleman bumped into me and he got hold of my arm to steady me and said ..so sorry ... and I said oh that's okay , I am a bit of a doddery old lady.
Then he looked at me and said , no way, you are the prettiest old lady I have seen today.
I could handle that.nodding.gif

Nice one. I hope you gave him a smile. JImB.

Unfortunately in these times where everyone is insulted or offended by everything there's nothing safe to call anyone anymore if you don't know their name. Then they get offended if you don't talk. So my question is this...what are they supposed to do? How can they address you without offending you if they don't know your name? For the record I have been called hon, dear and sweetie. I don't mind any of it. Only thing I don't care for is being called mama.

That's right, Avon! They complain about the smallest things in life but at the same time they seem to ignore the really big and the really important issues. They seem to make up issues that are often so laughable!
Yeah, I guess you're both right @Packerjohn and @Avon. I am the OP of this thread. I don't have any really big important issues in my life so I picked something trivial like this which I found annoying. No more annoying than the tests I go through every six months to see if the cancer I was diagnosed with two years ago is still in remission. Not that it's really big or important.

Maybe I should have started a thread that said "I don't like bone marrow biopsies, PET scans, CT scans, and blood tests for cancer". Would that still be "complaining about the smallest things in life"? No, so I chose something that I found annoying at that time and posted about it.

When I'm hosting a party at the roller rink, I always introduce myself to the parents of the birthday child. I usually say "Hi! I'm ______, I'll be your party hostess today. If you forget my name, I also answer to 'hey you' and 'ummm, a.....'!"

They usually laugh, but most will actually remember my name after that! 😂🙃😆😜
